About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live life like a Clash song: with a meassage you can dance to

ABOUT ME

I try to be a man about town. I've been a radio DJ for six years, a concert promoter, a school senator, I ran for mayor twice, I was in a rock band, I managed a Ben & Jerry's scoop shop for ten years throughout northern California, I was a substitute teacher for a year in Davis, CA and now, since early 2009, I have been an English Teacher to Speakers of Other Languages -- first in South Korea and now in the United Arab Emirates.

I am learning the banjo and once won an acoustic show-down featuring performers from the entire nation of South Korea.

PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy is a lot like George Carlin's - expect I vote. I'm here for the show but I throw a few tomatoes and take the stage because life should be interactive. All we have is time and then all we will have is death so lets do something.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hung out with coach-surfers in the past. I've only technically hosted once before when I lived in California although I used to have a house that put on concerts in our living room and we had musicians from all over the world sleeping on our spare mattresses.

Unfortunately, I'm living in a small studio right now so the extra sleeping space is lacking. I do live a two minute work from a nice somewhat forgotten about beach.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couchsurfed in New York City, Portland OR, SF, Hollywood, Seattle, and Seoul, Daegu, and Suwon South Korea. Never have had a bad experience.

An old housemate belonged to this site before I did so my couches have been surfed. Before that I had a house that opened up its living room to touring bands so a lot of musicians slept on the mattresses that we also used as sound buffers.

Interests

Music. Politics. Vegetarian Cuisine. Community Activism. I have a degree in English and minors in History and Film Studies so I enjoy talking about literature, history, and Film. I am also a self trained musician. I play the guitar and I am learning the accordion. I mostly write my own songs but I do a mean Tom Waits impersonation on the accordion.
