About Me

I am an artist currently on my way to Berlin. My work lately focuses on using public space to make strangers into friends. I am just leaving San Francisco, where I lived in a co-op with 17 people. We've had dozens of Couchsurfers stay with us in the past 10 years.
You can see my work at www.robb.cc if you are curious.

PHILOSOPHY

Do arbitrary things as often as possible and see where you end up.
Make beautiful and interesting things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think it is a great idea. Travel without contacts often leads to travel without context. It is a shame how many people experience new places as spectacle rather than experience.

Music, Movies, and Books

I recently read Special Topics in Calamity Physics and found it fantastic. I would recommend it to strangers. I went on a Vonnegut kick last year. I liked them all, but loved Cat's Cradle
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime was good. I liked The Stranger. Ender's Game was better than Speaker for the Dead. Both were good. I read them last month.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once hitch-hiked 1600km (1000 mi) from Des Moines to New Orleans. I couch-surfed in New Orleans, and it was amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a lot about making things. I have been a professional fabricator for 6 years. If you needs something built or fixed, chances are I can help. Unless it is a car. :-)
I love to talk about art, craft, metal, wood, tools, 3D modeling, 3D printing, plastics, optics, engineering.

I would love to learn how to work with soft materials, such as fabric. I would also love to practice German or Spanish.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, skills, jokes, candy. All kinds of things.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, China, Cuba, England, Germany, Hong Kong, Mexico

Countries I’ve Lived In
