About Me

I like to laugh and have conversations about books. I'm from the Midwest and I don't quite fit there. I've acted in plays and written unpublished short story collections. I've been in a chamber choir and worked at a tractor dealership and a dairy farm.
In short, I'm exactly what you get when a farm boy has aspirations of culture.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In 2015, I took off on my dream trip across the United States by bicycle. Most of the time, I swung my hammock in parks and fencerows, but I want to meet people and share stories as well. Plus, a warm place to sleep couldn't hurt me. I didn't give people much forewarning, but I found a ton of warmth and hospitality anyway. I just want to give back to all the people who were so good to me. I hope I can just make the world a better place for all the better people I have met.

Interests

I play the ukulele, I like dogs and bikes, count as many books as I read in a year. I average a book every week.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: OkGo, Muse, Beatles, Johnny Cash
Movies: The Gods Must Be Crazy (a 70s film that does comedy, action, and romance and does it well), Pacific Rim, Mad Max: Fury Road.
Books: very hard to pick only a few. The Pastures of Heaven by Steinbeck, The Fault in Our Stars by Green, Bonk by Roach, Perks of Being a Wallflower by Chbosky, anything I'm reading right now.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I completed the MR340, a non-stop river race across Missouri on the Missouri. Fully 1/3 of participants drop out by the first day. My friend and I completed the 340 miles in 66 hours. I nearly fell asleep and out of the boat.

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach English composition, but you probably don't need help with that. I am looking to share/swap stories with anyone.
I'm about 3/4 of the way through recounting my first big bike trip:
