About Me
***I used to have more references that got lost during the switch to the paid couchsurfing plan***
Hey, I'm Rob, 26 years old and am using Couchsurfing since 2015 during a year abroad in Canada. I figured that this platform offers a great benefit for host and surfer, especially if you're travelling alone and don't know the town well (yet). I'm excited to host people because it really brings the travel vibe to my home in times I might not be able travelling (workwise).
I recently graduated from university and got an media engineering degree in Düsseldorf.
I like to go to concerts and museums in my leisure time. Good thing that Düsseldorf is full of art.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Hostels are a nice and cheap way to stay somewhere. But often people are focused on there laptops, cellphones and not up for a chat. Only a few hostels got that vibe that you can get of a couchsurfing experience.
When I talked to most of my hosts we had the same opinion about couchsurfing: The host does not offer free accommodation. He sort of expects to meet new people, chat with them, show them around and make new friends in return for a place to sleep.
And that's why I signed up.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music is life. We better talk about that. Before I started traveling I thought I had a pretty good overview over all kinds of music, heard everything and am in the position to judge.
Oh dear, I was so wrong.
There are so many local artists, other genres and styles I didn't know about. Always up for new music.
I'm probably in a rock/punk/indie phase now... And anything that's FUNKY!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I worked the 15/16 ski season in kicking horse mountain resort, Canada, and improved my skiing from 0 to (let's say) 75.
I got accidently left behind (abandoned?) on a little island in front of Port Hardy with a girl from Newcastle upon Dyne, UK and we survived for two weeks on our own. We saw whales, wolfes, eagles and bears.
After a couple expensive and annoying bus rides with Greyhound I discovered hitchhiking for myself. I hate it and I love it at the same time but I would never recommend it.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can play a couple of brass instruments and would like to share my knowledge about music. I'm kinda learning to play the electric guitar so that I always welcome if you can show me something new.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I enjoy cooking but wouldn't call myself a chef. I'm pretty handy so if you have to fix something I can do that for you. You're stressed out and can't deal with your dirty dishes/ dirty kitchen/ long loan. I'll do it for you, no worries.
