O mnie

Scholar by day, wandering motorcyclist and forklift driver by night. Electronic music, beer, and wine aficionado. I study Urban Planning at the University of Michigan, with a background in History. Detroit Michigan Born and Raised.

When I'm not working, I usually take a big summer road trip around the country. For anyone wondering, I ride a 2012 Suzuki V-Strom named "Valerie." It's not a harley. Although she has been to Sturgis. She is very faithful and loves mountains, and long walks on the beach. In 2016 I took my motorcycle out to Colorado, Utah, then up to Montana, Jasper, and back to Michigan. Generally I prefer to camp, but I recently began to venture off the beaten path, and onto smaller state or local roads. There I find much more personal interaction with residents in shops, and more memorable experiences while traveling - this has been my main focus the past few trips!

I moonlight in Music Festival Production (usually only in Michigan) but I have put on some pretty big shows, and love all types of music. I drive an 8 ton forklift, and help bring 130 dB of bass into the faces of people.

Generally, I have a limited number of years to travel around by bike every summer, so I'm trying to make the most of the experience!

Dlaczego jestem na Couchsurfing

In short, I really enjoy talking and listening. I am humble and hospitable, and I always help anyone out whenever I can, so if I can host a traveler and live vicariously through their trip, it is awesome.

When staying, I love the idea of being able to learn about an area or city from a resident, and get ideas about the culture, things to do, etc. I also am very interested in other perspectives, and I think the best way to get this while traveling is to stay with residents. It is much better than the isolation of a campground, or the banality of a hotel room.

Muzyka, filmy i książki

For music, I am an equal-opportunity listener. I tend to stay away from really heavy metal. My tastes are pretty varied, but everything from electronic to techno to trance to indie or downtempo type stuff.

For movies, I used to be really caught up on the recent trends, but sort of fell off in recent years. I enjoy suspense and thrillers, and avoid horror. I am a massive Star Wars geek.

Movies: Star Wars, LOTR, V for Vendetta, Edge of Tomorrow, Her, Quentin Tarantino Anything, Taken, Skyfall, Watchmen, Girl with a Dragon Tattoo, etc. etc. etc.

TV Shows: Walking Dead, West World, Archer, House of Cards, West Wing, Parks and Rec,

For books, I only usually read REALLY dry books about how to plan an equitable urban transit system, but on the rare chance that I get to read for pleasure, I like fantasy and sci-fi, and the occasional philosophy text (like Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance). Some of my favorite authors are Brent Weeks, Tolkien, JK Rawling, Neil Gaimen, Terry Pratchett, Garth Nix, Brandon Sanderson, Philip Pullman, Tom Clancy...

Jedna niesamowita rzecz, którą zrobiłem(-am)

One month long, 8,000 mile solo road trip by motorcycle, almost exclusively camping and "roughing it". While this was a great life experience, I'm ready to take it a little easier on some of my trips to enjoy them more.

I would love to teach history, and especially facts about Detroit, and other US cities. I feel the city has garnered a very unfortunate reputation that is not true to form. A lot of the rich history of the city goes unexplained, and misunderstood. As someone that studies cities literally for a living, I'm always willing to compare stories of urban spaces and environments!

I also study transportation, so just about every mode of transit is fascinating to me, from how they work on a mechanical level, to how they are funded, operated, and maintained. Especially because Detroit lacks such a thing, I would love to learn about your interaction with Transit. I can also talk your ear off about motorcycles, cars, buses, and planes. Just about anything that moves.

Stories of travel, funny or scary. General experiences with wandering around the country, nearly being eaten by a bear, a critique of contemporary geopolitics, and stellar cheese pairings.
