I really like to learn languages for travelling, I started learning Spanish to travel in South America, and tried to pick up a survival level in Russian. I think the trial and error aspect of learning languages, as well as the possibilities that it open are really fun ! :)

I try to pick up basics when I go to a place for more than a week on holidays.
