About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Spreading Love & Creating Abundance of Good Things, especially Food

ABOUT ME

I never believed what my teachers told me was true (perhaps because my parents were teachers) and never accepted the status quo. As a kid I saw famished Ethiopians on TV and realised that whatever they said, governments weren't really interested in preventing such suffering.

I once owned a stereo, but I've never owned a TV, car or a house. I've had laptops since 1999. I lived in Europe (mainly UK, also DK & DE) for about 30 years, then, tired of the madness, moved Bangladesh for a change of pace.

I've investigated under the carpet of fractional reserve banking, 911truth, 9-99, the deep state and some of our world's other dark corners and it ain't pretty. As the deeds of unaccountable power are becoming clearer to all, it's starting to unravel. Let's gather our courage to resist the fearmongers.

PHILOSOPHY

Peak oil/water/food/soil/climate etc. is a chance for an unprecedented change for the better. ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE! We are all ONE, and must now reverse the heritage of hierarchical psychopathic institutions and ideologies (http://altruists.org/ae911) which divide us.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I found CS to be a tremendous way to show the Gift Economy in action, and have meet up with other Gift Economy fans. Oh, and I've done a bit of surfing. Bangladesh doesn't have much of a tourist thing going - had a couple of people interested to come and surf, but both failed to show, presumably due to visa or other randomness.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Quite a lot, over the years, though mainly before the age of WWW. Aged 18, I went around Europe including visits to people who had picked up a bottle my step-father threw in lake Geneva. I finally understood the point of learning foreign languages! (http://www.robinupton.com/personal/records/thoughts/the_point_of_learning_languages.html)

Visa trouble has frustrated more than one couchsurfer - so IF YOU WANT TO VISIT BANGLADESH, GET A VISA IN YOUR HOME COUNTRY. Getting a visa in a country other than that in which your passport is issued is not always possible.

Interests

Decentralising society. Anti-terrorism, i.e. spreading love, not fear.

I would like to do for the Banks/Police/Army what Couch Surfing has done for the hospitality industry :-)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2004 I had a vision of a decentralised money (= global reputation, karma, whuffie) supported by the internet. A bit like how people write each other references in CS project, but general enough to offer a real alternative to hierarchical top-down money.

People can express their preferences, suggest ideas, make requests and offers to others. Like neurons in a brain, the unity has a capability which is beyond the comprehension of an individual parts.

So much for the vision. Now I want to see it real life! I hope we're together on this!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach Go, pastel sketching (http://www.robinupton.com/personal/cultural/art/), or computer stuff such as XML/XSLT. My day job is English teaching. I produce a radio show about what's really going on in the world (http://UnwelcomeGuests.net) and find that a perennial favourite topic for discussion

I am learning Korean, Korean sign language, hidden history/politics, permaculture (slowly).

Most interested to discuss decentralised currency. i.e. Money doesn't have to be selfish (zero-sum), not does it requires higher Powers to enFORCE contracts. See my theory of decentralised accounting at http://altruists.org/ae
