About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'll be working at a summer camp in Massachusetts this summer. Since I live in Colorado, that means it's time for a cross-country road trip adventure!

ABOUT ME

I'm the guy with the funny deep voice that everyone always imitates! People say I sound like the prototypical California surfer, but the truth is, I'm not from California, and I don't surf! (Well if you wanna get technical, I lived in Los Angeles for a year--film school--and I did go surfing one day in Malibu, but there were no waves!) I'm from Chicago, originally, but I've been installed in beautiful Durango, Colorado, for quite awhile!

Durango is a great place for my favorite activity: skiing! I love to ski! But it turns out I'm not very good at it. I thought I was great, until I went to Telluride for the first time and got my ass handed to me by the huge bowls up there! Turns out I've been hitting in the bush leagues all this time and thinking I was in the majors. Oh well!

Durango's an even better place for mountain biking! Unfortunately though, I don't partake in much of that, as my mountain bike was stolen quite a while ago, and I'm crap at saving money, so I'll never be able to afford a new one! At least not til I get a steady job at least, something I haven't had in, well...never.

So I'm headed into the back half of the back half of my twenties, and I'm still in school, still without a career. I guess you could say I'm a classic case of arrested development! It could be because I never focus on something long enough to stick with it...If you can't tell from the rambling tone of this blurb here, I may have a case of the ol' ADD!

I should probably go back and cut some paragraphs out of this thing, but I would like to say this: Durango, while quite possibly one of the greatest towns on Earth, gets awfully confining after a while! I need to get out and see more of the world before I get too old, and that's why I'm excited to become a bigger part of the Couchsurfing community!

PHILOSOPHY

I don't know, this whole life thing still has me pretty confused. I'll get back to you when I'm old and wise.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'll be honest: I joined Couchsurfing several years back, hooked up a little bit with the Couchsurfing community, and then didn't even log on again for about three years. I drifted away because I found it difficult to connect with people. Now I realize that's because my profile was creepy as hell! I was verified by pretty much no one (since I was new) I had weird pictures of myself unshaven and in shades, and I made all sorts of strange references to liking Star Trek (?)!

I've come back through necessity: I have very little money and a long way to travel. But that's true of most of us, isn't it? I think the beauty of this community, which I do know from what little experience I've had with it, is the opportunity to be greeted by a friendly face when you're far from home, to see a new place through the eyes of the locals. I've had the pleasure of Couchsurfing a bit when I was in New Orleans years ago. I'd like to return the favor to wary travellers in Durango some day! (I'll need to find a place of my own though--my lease is up soon!)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A friend and I couchsurfed successfully in New Orleans back in 2009. That was great! I hope to add much more soon!

Interests

The desert is my playground! As are the mountains, but I much prefer the desert. I've just discovered the Theater and have a real passion for it! Climbing, biking, canoeing, running - these are all activities I enjoy.

Music, Movies, and Books

Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, Steinbeck, - my favorite authors at the moment

My three desert island movies: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Singin' in the Rain

Music: Beatles, bluegrass, Johnny Cash, Reggae...I'm not nearly as knowledgeable about music as I am movies, say, but I like a wide range of stuff.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I filmed movies on the Universal Studios backlot! That's pretty cool right? Also I got to climb up to the rim of Mt. St. Helens. I think it might be closed to the public because it started acting up again? But it was '99 and we were good to go, although I heard years later that our permits were illegal. Oops!
