About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore, Experience, Enjoy, Eat!

ABOUT ME

I've been living and working all over the developing world since 2005, and am about to move to London for a masters in climate change at UCL. Hopefully the absurd travel will continue...

PHILOSOPHY

All things in moderation (including moderation), enjoy yourself as much as you can, and do as little harm to others as possible. Laugh often.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I was able to host a large number of couchsurfers in my apartments in Guinea and Liberia, a tremendous experience. I have surfed a few times and used couchsurfing to meet fascinating people on my travels since then. I look forward to the day (hopefully soon) when I will be able to host surfers once again.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first couchsurfing experience was in Amsterdam back in 2007 (thank you Hans Koops!), my traveling companion and I could find no accommodation and were put up with a warm welcome and unending generosity. He taught us the way!

Interests

Exploration! I have been hugely fortunate to be able to travel as much as I have, might as well keep a good thing going..

Music, Movies, and Books

I love movies, altogether too many to list here. Music-wise, there is quality to be found in all genres, but I am partial to soul, funk, rock, blues, even some rap/hip-hop and danceable music. I read quite a lot: authors I love include Vonnegut, Steinbeck, Hesse, Bryson, Douglas Adams, Pahlaniuk, and many others.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rode my motorcycle from Conakry to Dakar (1400km) over three grueling, but amazing, days.

Teach, Learn, Share

I lived in west africa for quite a while, and have local knowledge of Mali, Senegal, DRC, Guinea, and Liberia. This can be important as most guide books are woefully out of date or horribly incorrect in terms of transport and safety. I also can advise that while the beer of guinea is horrible, Guiluxe is preferable to Skol...
