À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

Preparing to try and sail around the world and visit different places along the way with my wife, Katie.

ABOUT ME

I grew up traveling during winter months with my parents. We travelled economically on a small sailboat and once in a rusty old van camping through Central America. The travel bug seems to have fully parasitized my life. I studied at UW-Madison, but feels I feel I learned more living at large housing co-op in a community setting.

PHILOSOPHY

Change is the only constant. Non-deterministic and non-theologically specific. I like the original ideas of Buddhism, before cultural and religious manipulation.

“An Ideal is merely an escape, an avoidance of what is, a contradiction of what is. An ideal prevents direct action upon what is. To have peace, we will have to love, we will have to begin not to live an ideal life but to see things as they are and act upon them, transform them.” – J. Krishnamurti

"Sentiment without action is the ruin of the soul" - Edward Abbey

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I meet other great people around the world and share ideas and perspectives helping out where I can. I love seeing communities thrive in a multitude of forms and locations. It has been awe inspiring to create lasting friendships and revel in new communities through CS. I feel that in these times communities will be essential for happiness, sanity, and survival.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been in love with couch surfing ever since being stranded in Arcata and being taken in within an hour of a couch request only to find an old childhood friend being hosted in the same house! The fates have aligned to connect me with amazing people I need to know and deepen my traveling experiences in ways I never imagined. Since then I have used couch surfing around the U.S. and in Mexico.

Centres d'intérêt

Interested in intentional communities, travelling, sailing, exploring, sustainable agriculture, mushroom-hunting, biking, yoga, acro-yoga, juggling, enlightening experiences. Interested in avoiding mainstream culture and affiliations of the typical "American Dream". My eventual pipe dream is to have a small sustainable farm with goats, avocados, and mangos to start. On this farm it would be great to have a yoga studio, traveller's hostel and small cafe/bakery (I love to cook and bake!).

Currently focused on sailing opportunities and hope to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to obtain my captain's license and turn sailing into a career.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Movies: Pretty much any "weird" non-holly wood movie that has some intellectual or artistic quality.

Music: I enjoy a little of everything except modern country, banda (from Mexico), and profanity laced hip-hop. Currently digging Nicola Cruz and Govinda.

Books: So many...but here are some: Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruíz Zafón, Wild Fermentation, Fox Fire series, anything by B.K.S. Iyengar, Jitterbug Perfume, many by Barbara Kingsolver, and yes even Harry Potter.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Walked next to flowing lava in Guatemala.
