About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To keep on learning, questioning, challenging, and living.

ABOUT ME

We're a family of three, and at least one of us is on the road somewhere just about every month.

PHILOSOPHY

"Simplify, simplify."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We've hosted, and we've been good guests. :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Gary lived in Asia/Micronesia for about ten years - teaching here and there - and he lived in or stayed in huts and houses of every size. We've hosted a few times and surfed several times. There are lots of cool people out there. Almost all of our experiences have been very positive ones.

Interests

Gary: Philosophy, Eastern Religions, Noam Chomsky, travel, language, and reading.

Yee-chen: Most things connected with China (language, literature, culture, education, and especially food).

Ray: Chess, tennis, and Ping-Pong.

Books:

Gary: Anything written by Noam Chomsky (politics or linguistics), George Orwell, and Henry D. Thoreau.

Yee-chen: Hong Lou Meng (again and again and again).

Ray: Too many to list.

Movies:

Gary: "Close to Eden" is his favorite.

Yee-chen and Ray: ????

Music:

Yee-chen doesn't usually listen to music. Ray's still developing his tastes. Gary loves music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Gary was a Peace Corps Volunteer 20+ years ago. He built a bamboo hut beside a river, learned the local language, helped some people, and made some friends.

Yee-chen walked from Myanmar to Thailand.

Ray became (and is) one of the best chess players in the world for his age group.

Teach, Learn, Share

Ray can teach chess. Yee-chen's specialty is Chinese. Gary can teach you how to juggle.

As for learning, we're open to whatever you have to offer.
