About Me

Hey, I'm Robyn!

I was born in England but my family moved to Canada when I was a kid so I mostly grew up there. We always moved lots and I think that fueled my love of travel. As an adult, I've spent time living in Canada, England, and Australia.

I'm really grateful that I have the opportunity to travel so much; I just started a new journey in March. I'm now back in England and hoping to use it as a base to travel around Europe this year, and then hopefully travel elsewhere next year. I'm a very free spirited person (hello fellow Sagittarius) and don't like being tied down in one place for too long :)

I like to think I'm very positive and open. I love animals and nature, art and music, being outdoors and using my hands, or relaxing inside with a good book. I'm quite easygoing, and seem to get along with people well. I'm very fortunate to have the amazing friendships that I have; many of them are people that I've met through my travels and I'm so glad to have them in my life.

I wouldn't say I'm athletically inclined or talented in any way, but I do really enjoy trying new activities (especially if someone wants to try it out with me). Last year I started doing aerial yoga and pole dancing classes which really pushed me out of my comfort zone. I find that as adults, it can be very difficult to maintain the hobbies or interests we had when we were younger and had more time, so I've been trying really hard to create space for those activities in my life. I was also in a community band before I left Canada (played percussion) and it was great to feel that sense of musical passion again.

I'm also very passionate about self love, body positivity, and health education. I consider myself spiritual and love having deep respectful conversations with people about their beliefs and the world. I think one of the many benefits of traveling and meeting people is learning about new perspectives and cultures, and opening your mind to the different experiences that people have had. I've personally found it an amazing way to grow and become a more accepting person.

I'd say I'm on a bit of a spiritual or self discovery journey at the moment; my priorities are definitely very different from when I was in my early 20's and backpacking. I'm hoping to meet like minded people who will have a positive influence in my life and personal growth :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first heard of couchsurfing years ago through some friends. Since then, I've stayed with a few people in different countries and genuinely loved it. The people I met and became friends with were amazing; I still reflect on those memories very fondly. Couchsurfing is a great way to experience a place as a local and not just a tourist, and I really appreciate that hosts want to share their life and home with people. I've gone to places that I never would have if I was staying in a hostel or simply doing touristy things. It's a great opportunity for everyone involved to share their stories and experiences and I love that this community exists.

Interests

I love traveling, I've been to a few countries already but in the next few years I hope to see more of the world - (New Zealand, Southeast Asia, South/Central America, Europe). I play a variety of musical instruments (piano, clarinet, and percussion) and enjoy painting/drawing. I like going to art shows, concerts, or festivals and seeing other cultural events around cities.

I enjoy aerial yoga and pole, both are amazing fun. I wouldn't say I'm good at either but they push me to improve and I'm very proud of what I've accomplished so far (I never thought I'd even go to a pole class, let alone be going upside down on one within a few months).

I like going outside to explore, whether that's hiking, camping, or exploring in a city. I also enjoy staying inside and relaxing too though. Sometimes you just want to relax and watch TV or play video games.

I also like going out and partying/dancing, but I don't really drink as much as I used to, so I don't like getting wasted or black out drunk when going out. I think it's fun to have a few drinks and just have fun with friends in bars or clubs.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite book is "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon - ask me about it in person and I can go on forever about how connected I feel to it, how it made me fall in love with reading again, and changed the course of my life. I love classic books too, my favourites being "Pride and Prejudice" and "Persuasion"; I have a small collection of classic books that I can't wait to read. I enjoy watching movies but I have no preference or favourite, though I'd rather not watch a horror movie. In regards to music, I love it, all of it, whether it's folk or kpop or rap - my playlists can be very random at times lol

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Volcano boarding in Nicaragua; sunrise volcano trek in Bali. (I really like volcanoes)

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm not sure if there's anything I could teach but I'm always open to sharing experiences and stories. If you like having open minded conversations about everything in the world, then I'm your gal. I don't like having arguments, but I enjoy discussions that are respectful and try to make you see things from different point of views. I'd love to learn more about peoples spiritual beliefs and views :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm very clean and organized so I hope I wouldn't be too much of a nuisance. During my stay I can offer my help around the house, including cleaning and cooking and other chores. I have a very upbeat personality and I usually get along very well with everyone that I meet. I've lived with lots of different people over the past few years, so I've become very good at being adaptable and making myself feel at home somewhere. I hope that we'd be able to become great friends as well.

**Not looking for any type of "fun", just want to meet genuine people. If someone tries to be sexual with me, I will report them. I'm not on here to sleep with people, I simply want to travel and meet people. (Saying this from experience)**
