About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I want to work hard to meet the goals I've set for my life.
ABOUT ME
My name is Jess. I'm 25, a lover of art, languages, literature, and music of all kinds. I work in a high school in Angoulême. I like to go see live shows. I want to see the world. I never know what to put in boxes that ask about me. I guess I'm a girl of simple wants and needs. I love my friends, my family, and our cat and dog. I am moderately talented at speaking French. I am an absolute beginner at Italian and Spanish, but I'm also a quick learner. I am slowly filling out the rest of my profile.
PHILOSOPHY
I'm a curious mix of the optimist and the pessimist - I think that people are good and that we can all get along, because there must be some common ground for everyone. On the other hand, I don't know if we as a species will ever find the common ground - or recognize it if we do. Meanwhile I try to live my life in a positive way, and encourage others to find their own happy medium.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have done a bit of surfing and a bit of hosting. I usually have a friend staying at my place over the weekend - that counts, right? I love showing people around my town, be it Angoulême here in France or Fort Worth back in Texas. I have surfed around France and Germany and stayed with mutual friends in Italy, and I just really prefer it. I love getting to know people, sharing conversation and food. Lots and lots of food.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
A few years ago my friends and I went to a grassroots feminism convention in Houston. One of the organizers very kindly put all of us (I think there were 5) up in her apartment. She helped us navigate big, confusing Houston, pointing us towards an excellent taqueria across the street (still the best chicken mole I've ever had) and generally being awesome. I look forward to many more positive experiences like this one in my life!
Interests
art (modern, classical, neo-classical, Renaissance, antiquities, Eastern, Western, all kinds! I love it!); music: seeing live shows, pretending I am ever going to start a band, listening to music everywhere I am; reading - anything! a good book, the paper, blogs, the backs of cereal boxes; my bicycle - getting enough money to give it a new paint job, and riding it more often; going to the movies; traveling (when I can, which is not often enough); making new friends around the world!; Saturdays at the Rahr brewery, when I have an extra $5

Music, Movies, and Books
TV shows are the new movies. Mad Men, Gossip Girl, lots of British sitcoms, quiz shows, and cop dramas. I like Miyazaki films, and serious costume dramas, and smart comedy and low-brow comedy too. Some music: The Unicorns, The Weakerthans, Beirut, Of Montreal, Old 97s, The Smiths, Jens Lekman, Vincent Delerm, Coeur de Pirate. Books! I love books, but I never know what I want to read. Please recommend some reading.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Sitting on the canal in Amsterdam on Queen's Day. The whole canal was bumper to bumper party boat traffic, completely insane, blasting music, dressed like pirates, everything orange. Amazing vibes
