About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want to meet people. I love good conversations and just connecting with others who want to talk about the big questions. I have not yet had a couch surfing experience but plan to this summer as I drive out to Rhode Isand. Look me up.

ABOUT ME

I'm a person who loves life and what it offers. I love the journey of learning and meeting people. I'm a passionate lover of music, movies, books, tv shows, philosophy, good times, good food, and good people.I'm just trying to broaden my horizons and meet different people. I was raised in the LDS faith (Mormons) and have since moved away from it and religion in general. I'm interested in sharing words and ideas with others and hearing what they have to say too.I currently work in the field of drug rehabilitation. I enjoy it, but I'm not positive its what I'll always be doing. I'd like to be a writer and to find a way to inspire others to want to educate themselves.

PHILOSOPHY

Life to me is about experiencing and enjoying the consciousness that is ours as a result of billions of years of evolution. After growing up in the Mormon church and embracing its teachings I've since moved from religion and have adopted a much more naturalistic philosophy. I accept that as complex and beautiful as we all are, we are not the product of some divine plan. We are a miracle of randomness. Our lives are ours and ours alone. We are accountable to ourselves and our fellow humans for the lives we choose to lead. The idea that there really may be nothing after we die is not comforting but the pursuit to understand reality is to important to sacrifice to whims of false hopes and happy lies. This view makes death more tragic and hatred more evil and useless. However it also makes love more important and life more precious. As we understand how big the universe is and how small we are, I don't think it should fill us with feelings of insignificance and nihilism. I believe it should filll us with gratitude that in the eons of time that the universe has existed and will continue to exist, we get this tiny moment to love, touch, feel, embrace, taste, experience, and learn all that we can. Its more important then ever to make this world better because there is no paradise waiting for us after we die.I'd like to share a pair of quotes that sum up the way I feel about life."The cosmos may be densely populated with intelligent beings. But the Darwinian lesson is clear: There will be no humans elsewhere. Only here. Only on this small planet. We are a rare as well as an endangered species. Everyone of us is, in the cosmic perspective, precious. If a human disagrees with you, let him live. In a hundred billion galaxies you will not find another." ~ Carl Sagan"The known is finite, the unknown is infinite; intellectually we stand on an islet in the midst of illimitable ocean of inexplicability. Our business in every generation is reclaim a little more land." - T.H. HuxleyMy ultimate dream for humanity is that long after I'm dead and gone, humans will be living in such a way that governments become unnecessary and where we have explored and colonized the universe. Now that I've broken the rule of talking about religion I'm going to touch on my politics.I'm a major believer in peace, individualism, and libertarianism. Life is too short to sacrifice our minds to dogmas and group think. Think for yourself! We live in a market place of ideas where we can learn and debate, where the best ideas will eventually shape the world into a better, more connected, and more peaceful place for our descendents.I don't subscribe to the ideas of the two major political parties in this country. When it comes to civil liberties, tolerance, non defensive wars, censorship, and people's personal life decisions as far as who they sleep with, marry, or what they put into their bodies I support the left. However when it comes to taxation, gun rights, and free market capitalism I support the right.Like George Washington I believe government to be nothing more then an instrument of force. Its only function is to protect liberty, not to inhibit it. Unfortunately we live in society where some government is necessary but again I believe it should only exist to protect individual's lives, property, and the liberty to pursue their own visions of happiness so long as they do not infringe on other's lives, property, and pursuits. Persuasion, cooperation, and ideas are more powerful then armies and governments could ever hope to be, and the changes they bring are more lasting and more meaningful then anything that is imposed by coercion and force. In short the principles I live by are love, interaction, skepticism, individualism, carpe diem, self education, hope in the future, individual liberty, and the appreciation of beauty.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hmm... I see lots of amazing things. Starry nights or nature's beauty give me that something that I imagine people get at church. Also I saw a solar eclipse recently.
