About Me

Olá olá :)

My name is Rodrigo and I love doing things I am not supposed to do.

People's lifes nowadays is commonly planned by others. Institutions, family, you name it... I have no idea what I want to do tomorrow or in fifty years, but I know I don't ever want to be inside that box. I am not an isometric and therefore I don't want to be told what I have to do in order to fit in. Life needs a meaning. It needs to collect moments and stories. Observe deeply your street, listen deeply to your music, taste deeply your meals, feel deeply your hugs.

I was born in São Paulo, and as a brazilian, my fuel is good company. I like to share my experiences and listen to lifestories. I am never bored. I believe being adaptable and open-minded is the key to happiness. Alexander Supertramp once said that "happiness is only real when shared".

"I hate small talks. I wanna talk about atoms, death, aliens, sex, magic, intellect, the meaning of life, faraway galaxies, the lies you've told, your flaws, your favorite scents, your childhood, what keeps you up at night, your insecurity and fears. I like people with depth, who speak with emotion, a twisted mind. I don't want to know what's up."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When traveling, the best way to get to truly know a city is by meeting locals. Couchsurfing is the best manner to do this while being able to listen to stories and have a great time
I also want to give travelers the chance to feel the same when they come to the place I live.

Interests

After I moved to the Netherlands, I started a new hobby and fell in love with it. I recently became a glider pilot, and the feeling of being up in the sky is indescribable. Human beings are not supposed to be in the sky. They were made to be with their feet on the ground. Maybe that's the reason why I love so much to be up there. Or underwater.

I also like languages. I believe it is one of the most meaninful ways to get in contact with a certain culture. I can speak three (almost 4 at the moment) languages, and I would love to one day be able to fluently speak german and italian as well.

I discovered in photography a way to register good memories and express my views of the world. Currently I am taking a lot of photos in film.

I love making music and performing. The feeling of seeing that your music can really touch some people is incredible. I play the guitar and piano, and started recently to learn saxophone. But seriously, just put something in my hands, I might get some sound out of it and follow you on a jam.

Music, Movies, and Books

From the speakers: Supertramp is my favorite band since 2012, I don't know how, but I really can't get tired of it. I listen mainly to rock, jazz, blues, but well, I have no restrictions. As long as it puts people in a nice mood, I enjoy it. I am rewriting this whole profile while listening to Coltrane, and it might have been the responsible for setting me in this life-all-deep-thinker-and-imaginative-utopic mood.

In the screen: Shrek, Inglorious Bastards, Green Mile, Shrek, Fargo, Intouchables. The 90s were awesome for cop movies. The movie to watch depends (naturallt) on the mood. What do you want? To laugh? To get confused and think? To cry? To be scared?

On the paper: I confess I need to read more. Since I moved to Europe I haven't been reading much, but my favorite type is thrillers, or any other book that can grab my eyes and prevent them of looking anywhere else.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Crossing the Andes in the middle of a snowstorm from Chile to Argentina with a Fiat Palio without snowchains
Walking 120km in Tuscany during a week
Traveling through Umbria in a Vespa
Stop eating meat. I know it's something unimportant for most people, but I really worry about our planet, and I thought I needed to act accordingly.
Learning how to fly gliders
Swimming in Loch Ness - please mention the monster in your request, so I can be sure you read my profile
Running a half-marathon
Waking up in a country, having lunch in another, dinner in another and going to bed in another

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some bad words in portuguese. Everybody loves swearing in other languages, right? I can teach you a splendid french omelette recipe, one of my father's secret!
Also a little bit of some musical instrument or photography tips.
If you are interested in flying I can give you some piloting basics :)

I would love to learn whatever it is that you want to teach me. It could be a dish, a language, habits, a hobby, a drink etc, anything. Actually, I would love if you could teach me some fast n' easy n' yummy dishes.

I want to share a good time, that's it, with good laughs!

What I Can Share with Hosts

For sure, a good company and a good time!

And oh, I'm organised, I won't make a mess ! As I leave, your place will be exactly as it was before I stepped in, apart from the stories and friendship that will certainly remain.
