About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore life's possibilities. Break my self-build cage.

ABOUT ME

My name is Roel Kemp (pronouced "rule camp"). I grew up in a coastal village in North-Holland called IJmuiden (Except for the dunes, it's quite a boring village. So don't go there.). At age 19 I moved to Utrecht to study music and entrepreneurship at a school called "de Herman Brood Academie". During these studies I started teaching guitar in Gouda, the world capital of cheese! In the end of July 2014 I moved to Montpellier to start a new life in the south of France. I've lived there for half a year but was forced to move back to the Netherlands because I wasn't able to find work there. Back in the Netherlands I met a girl and we have a beautiful daughter now. Since then, I've moved to the East of the country and became a full time welder to provide for my daughter.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm very interested in looking at life at different perspectives. Understanding different points of view.

I'm an atheist but I respect people's religious beliefs. I have an interest in Old-Germanic mythology, Hermetism and many other things mysterious/occult. I like to look for the wise lessons and truths behind mythologies from any culture.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'd like to meet new people and have new fun experiences. (Don't we all?) I recently became a father so I won't be able to host anyone for the forseeable future. I'd still like to meet up with people if my schedule allows it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Had a wonderful summer's vacation (2012) in Montpellier thanks to all the supercool couchsurfing hosts! All of you guys have been so generous and hospitable. Everything turned out to be even better than expected! :)

I've had a few experiences hosting couchsurfers invited by friends of mine and those experiences have always been very positive.

Interests

I like playing / writing music, listening to music, beautiful women, sunshine, romance, traveling, languages, nature, laughing, good food, beef jerky, (ginger) tea, fixing stuff, (electric) guitars, tube amps, analog guitar pedals and old videogames (in that order). I'm sure there are many things i've forgotten to mention..

Music, Movies, and Books

To much to list. I usually listen to instrumental rock and heavy metal but I like almost any kind of music as long as it has been played by real people on real instruments (and preferably, at least one guitar).

Most books I've read were Dutch (children's) novels..

I like watching Comedy series / movies, but I'm getting a little tired of the predictable Hollywood happy-endings. A good drama can be nice as well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The first time I saw the night sky while being in the middle of nowhere. You can see so many stars when you're out in the countryside.

Seeing the Alpes and the Pyrenees for the first time.

Almost drowning in the Atlantic ocean (several times..)

Taking a swim in the North Sea in the middle of winter. Very refreshing..

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some guitar if you like. I'm fluent in Dutch and English, so I can help anyone who wants to practice those languages.

My French is decent. I can speak a little German, a few words of Italian and even fewer words in Russian. I would love to learn some Spanish!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good vibes, talking about phylosophy / psychology, guitar lessons and the (sometimes brutal) truth about my opinion.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

France, Netherlands
