ABOUT ME
First, I assume I'm much older than most people on here - but I've been crashing on couches or offering them since the 70s. :-) So the concept is hardly alien. Cavers (I've been one since I was 17) have been couchsurfing for many decades.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Only informally so far but for a long time. My most recent guest was the President of the National Speleological Society when the Greater Houston Grotto hosted the NSS Board of Governors meeting in 2011.
Interests
I am very outdoor-oriented in both my professional life (as the owner of an archeological consulting firm) and on the recreational side, where I have been a caver since the age of 17. I still love caving and hiking and camping and paddle sports even as I slow down a bit and become more interested in things like bird watching. :-) But I also love urban travel both in the US and internationally.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Found the lost location of the surrender of Co. Juan Almonte and several hundred Mexican troops after the battle of San Jacinto.
Found an archeological site that proved to have a Late Paleo component dating to the end of the Pleistocene era at ca. 10,000 years ago out in the far reaches of suburban Houston, TX.
Found several virgin caves in Jackson County, Florida, early in my caving career.
Finally got to go on an international caving expedition in 2009.
