About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To sail around the world! I quit my job in December and 2011 is the year I fulfill on my dream! :D

ABOUT ME

I'm currently sailing around the world! :DI've made it to Thailand, having sailed 5000 miles from Samoa. It's a long story, one I'm happy to share over a cup of tea!I did the King's Cup, asia's biggest sailing regatta, in December and now am enjoying some time ashore! When King's cup ended I had had 3 weeks off a boat in 4 months! Yikes! My next plan is to go to Chang Mai to do a 10 day vipassana sit (silent meditation retreat). I did my first one in February last year and it was a profound experience. Looking forward to reentering that space. After this I'm going to be hanging around in Chang Mai and studying thai massage and then maybe volunteering at an orphanage for a while. It's not your usual circumnavigation, but it is so right for me right now :)What else? I'm a musician. Not fantastic, but I take it seriously and enjoy it immensely. Really been focussing on melody lately and it's starting to pay off :)

PHILOSOPHY

Don't get too abstract. Things are pretty much as they seem, simpler than your mind will make them if you let it. Trust your instincts and follow your passions.

“Thirty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Mark Twain

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment I'm travelling the world, so it's surfing only. Big gratitude to all the CS hosts out there I'm yet to meet! :D

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had some amazing couchsurfing experiences so far. I've had some bizarre ones too, but it's all good. Have made some wonderful friends. The thing that has really surprised me is the sychronicity of the co-surfers I have met. Sometimes going in the same direction, sometimes at either end of an experience, like Bill and Ted in their excellent adventure, if you get the reference ;)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Gaudi's Cathedral in Barcelona is the most amazing thing I have seen in the world. I think Vipassana is the most amazing experience I have ever had, but there are lots of contenters - diving to 50m off the west coast of Cuba was wild, cliff jumping in Railey in Thailand was cool, the first time I sailed off the continental shelf was full on - 3km straight down!
