My name is Rogier and I'm currently living together with my girlfriend (Vita Bakker, she's also on Couchsurfing!) In Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where I study medicine. I didn't live my whole life in the Netherlands, as I was born in South Africa and I also lived a couple of years in rural France.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

During most of our trips, we would stay in hostels and hotels. It wasn't until Iran, that we realized how amazing and special it actually is to stay at other people's homes whom we just met.
We love to dive headfirst into another culture and this is the best way to do it.

However, we have never done it through a website like Couchsurfing (although I did register once in 2013). After hearing many good stories from friends who are fanatic surfers, we got really excited and decided to give it a try. From September the 30th, we'll be traveling to Iceland, Vancouver, the US, Mexico, Central America and Colombia. We hope then to meet many interesting people through Couchsurfing and make new friends.

Interests

Surfing, travelling, cooking, drawing, photography, hiking, music, medicine and history. Nature is also one of my big interests and is a very important part of my travels.

Music, Movies, and Books

Big fan of Scorcese, Tarantino and Neill Blomkamp! I also enjoy smaller and more arty movies. I watch a lot of series, my favorite include the Tudors, the Borgias, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, House of Cards... and of course GoT. I'm kind of a broad spectrum music lover, as I enjoy many kinds of different styles. One of my favorite bands (perhaps not the right word) is Jurassic 5. Not a big reader, but I love history books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Probably a photoshoot in Iran... at a old monument.... and in the desert. What was supposed to be a short visit to Yazd, ended up in a random photoshoot in the desert for a Iranian clothing brand. We had to reschedule our route, but it was definitely worth it.
