About Me

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I used to believe a place was beautiful because of its nature or the things humans built. But over the last few years, I’ve realised something deeper — it’s the people who make every journey meaningful, honest, and truly beautiful.

Interests

I enjoy rock music, cinema, and books - particularly crime fiction, Nordic noir, and non-fiction. I’m curious about science, love traveling, meeting new people, exploring food, and appreciating a good night’s sleep.

Music, Movies, and Books

I usually listen to a wide mix of artists — from the dreamy tones of Cigarettes After Sex to legends like Elton John and John Lennon. I love the emotional depth in Karl Ove Knausgaard’s writing, the musical brilliance of Asha Bhosle, Ilaiyaraaja, and SP Balasubramaniam, as well as the raw energy of Nirvana, Eric Clapton, and Jefferson Airplane. I also vibe with bands like Agam and artists like BUNT.

When it comes to movies, some favorites are Past Lives, Taxi Driver, No Country for Old Men, How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies, and Ratatouille. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani played a big role in pushing me toward traveling and seeing the world differently.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I walked past the monastery and then, for no clear reason, turned back. sat down, drank some water, and decided to rest for a while. A stranger smiled at me.SHe asked me to sit, returned with biscuits and a full bottle of water, and asked if I could wait for a while. I said yes—one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
As I waited, I watched her and her friends clean the monastery, laughing and occasionally laughing at me. Later, we walked together. We ate noodles. After that, I followed them without asking questions, like a quiet robot guided by trust.
At the end of the road stood a small, comfortable house. After a brief discussion, they decided to adopt me—just like that. They prepared a tiny room for me: a bed, a table, and barely enough space to turn around. The bathroom made me feel like a giant. Her name was Que Thi Mai.She had three children, many grandchildren, and at seventy, slept with a small pillow and a big smile.
We spoke through gestures and Google Translate. We talked about life. I understood some things clearly and pretended to understand the rest. I realized how quickly a tired traveler can retreat from uncertainty into the warmth of a stranger’s bed.
We traveled around the village together—beer, cigarettes, sunflower seeds, laughter. Everywhere we went, people gathered to see me like I was a prized toy.
When it was time to leave, there was sadness. They told me they gave me shelter because I looked tired and because I came from Buddha’s India. The rain delayed my departure, and they loved me again by giving me an old raincoat. I felt then that no happiness I’d known before matched the feeling of receiving that raincoat from her .
I left after the rain stopped. They worried something might happen to me. I left satisfied.
Somewhere on the other side of the earth, I have a seventy-year-old girlfriend and a home I can return to anytime.

Teach, Learn, Share

I believe everyone has something to teach and something to learn. I can share stories, conversations, and perspectives shaped by travel, books, cinema, and life and I’m always curious to learn from others.
