Hi, my name is Roland Knaap and I am an English teacher and I am often in Nicaragua and sometimes I go back to the Netherlands.

I looooove teaching, I love it because I need to be everything at the same time. I have to be the center of the class and at the same time make sure the students talk more than me. I have to be strict sometimes but also fun and show empathy. I have to plan, calculate, make creative fun exercizes, evaluate and so on and so on.

Besides that I am totally into music. I love playing piano and in every place I am I like to find piano's to play. Further on I love playing synthesizer and produce music on my iphone. This it is my favorte topic to talk about. And I have been part of the Third Chamber, 150 people from different countries that discuss how to make this world a better place. i have also travelled a lot. I believe I am able to talk about any topic but I would say: try me. Besides that I go to the beach every weekend to swim in the sea........yes in Nicaragua that is possible : )

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like meeting new people and sharing ideas and experiences. Staying over is a great way to get to know people.
I have been to many events organized by the Rotterdam CS community, like the weekly drinks, the language exchanges and the yearly four days Sinterklaas event and I have met many great people there

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to South Africa with one goal in mind, see the most special or spectacular animal on earth: the great white shark and it was amaaaaaazing. I met people who you see in discovery channel documentaries, real characters, especailly Andrew Hartmann, he could be in pirates of the caribbean and always walks barefooted. Besides this visiting Zambia was also great, I went to a safari park that was so green and lush, the most beautiful thing i have ever seen.
