About Me

I'm Romain, a frenchman, brand-new to couchsurfing, been living in Italy for more than 4 years now, after stints in the UK, Germany and Spain.

I'm a multidisciplinary scientist: half-mathematician, half-physicist, half-biologist.

I'm currently working on many projects including graph theory, handedness development, language learning...

I'm an avid outdoors person. I love hiking, cycling, canoeing. Anything that gets me into the wild. When my knees get better, I'll resume ultra-trailing. The ultra-trailers Kilian Jornet, Jared Campbell and François d'Haene are my heroes.

I play the guitar, the ukulele and I'm currently learning drums (but my religion forbids me to play in 4/4).

My motto would be a quote from Vonnegut:
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies - God damn it, you've got to be kind."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I'm traveling on my own, I like to find like-minded people to stay/chat with. I guess that when we have normal jobs, we're less likely to encounter people outside of our usual social groups. Couchsurfing seems like a great natural way of extending those circles.

Interests

I'm really into politics and philosophy and languages.

I guess crossing the Atlas mountains in Morocco, walking 21 days.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm very happy to speak in any language I know. Because my social circles are very international, I tend to speak (even my native language) in a very comprehensible way.
I speak fluently french and english, my italian and spanish allow me to hold conversations with any native speakers (except chileans, I struggle with the accent, go figure). I sort of get by in german and romanian, and I have basics in croatian, as well as knowledge in the structure of other languages.

Because I was lucky enough to study plenty of subjects, I guess I can talk about pretty much any scientific subject.

I'm also very happy to listen to any subject a person is passionate about. I guess anybody who has a passion can never be boring.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love cooking and I can probably try to cook something for you!
Also, terrible puns and approximative humor.
