Hello! My name is Romain. I am from Belgium and I am 23 years old. I just graduated in Chemical and Material Engineering in June. After five years of studying, I feel like it is time for me to take a break before starting the adult life. Therefore, I am planning a trip of 3 to 4 months in Spain.

The idea is to start in Barcelona and to take one week of intensive Spanish courses. Afterwards, I would like to go along the Mediterranean coast from town to town and from farm to farm until Seville and maybe even further. My goal is to learn Spanish (I am starting almost from zero) by means of this trip and to truly enjoy life at its maximum before having responsabilities. To do so I would like to mix the couchsurfing and the woofing experience. Both of these social networks offer the opportunity to encounter and to meet locals with their own culture, traditions and story. I registered to this website to meet more easily people a bit everywhere in Spain in order to practice Spanish but also to meet people that have a different perspective of life and to have great conversations. Therefore, if you host me, I will do my best to get to know you in Spanish and to help in your everyday life. I like cooking and I would also enjoy to give a hand if needed for any kind of service I can do. . I think that couchsurfing is the most suitable social network to get to know people in their everyday life and that it corresponds the most to the purpose of my trip. This trip has thus a triple goal: learn Spanish, meet people with a different life experience and enjoying life as much as I can.

Now I will tell a little bit more about myself. I love sport in general and I am interested in many of them even if I don't practice them. I mainly practice tennis, sailing, hiking, swimming and football but I experienced many others. Sailing is probably the sport that fascinates me the most! I mainly practice windsurfing but also enjoy catamaran and small or big sailing boats. The last two years I have been part of the direction of a special sailing club here in Belgium. Actually, the team directing this sailing club is only made of students from the campus where I studied. Together we organise a lot of activities in order to provide the opportunity to anyone to practice sailing at low price. Since then, my interest regarding this sport has even more increased. I think it is a very pleasant way to be in contact with the nature like hiking in the middle of the mountains.
Before being part of this sailing club I have also been a scout leader for three years which I really enjoyed. Actually, I always had a project in parallel of my studies so I could change my mind and invest myself in interesting life experiences.
Being born in belgium I am also a fan of beers and I always enjoy sharing a beer and discovering flavors in beers.

Finally, we are four at home, my little sister and my two parents. I also have a cat as pet but I like every kind of animal and I am rarely scared of dogs or other pets. I'm a very respectful person, quiet and tidy. I like when things are clean and ordered so I will not make a mess if you host me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As explained just above, I think couchsurfing is a very nice way to travel, meet people with their own life experience, share very interesting conversations and also to improve my Spanish. I want to enjoy life and I think that meeting people is one way of doing it.
