About Me

**Couchsurfing Profile is very out of date**

I’m from Belfast originally, but these days I’m in Tartu working on my masters degree in international relations.

As a native Irishman, I believe deeply in quality footwear.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I was on Erasmus in 2015/16 in Slovenia, where I met a lot of cool people from all over the place. I'd like to meet some more. I also like helping out other travelers, because I know that without a little good will seeing the world can be pretty tough.

I have a lot of good things to say about Belfast, but I'm also very aware that sometimes people need a bit of extra incentive to go there, or are put off by stories of the (now not so) recent conflict and subsequent political kerfuffle. I'd like to say I'm doing my part with that as well. Expect a drunk history lesson.

Plus, I'm trying to learn how to say 'cheers' in as many languages as I can.

Interests

Cookin' daals and sleggin' pals.

Neckin' beers and overcomin' fears.

Ridin' bikes and takin' hikes.

Music, Movies, and Books

I mostly listen to folk music and singer songwriters and stuff, but I'm also down to rock out.

I read a lot of magical realism, so some of my favourite authors are Haruki Murakami and Milan Kundera. I also really like Ken Kesey, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut, John Green, Chad Harbach and Toni Morrison. My undergrad dissertation was about One Hundred Years of Solitude and Kafka on the Shore.

Movie-wise I like Wes Anderson, Richard Linklater and the Cohen Brothers. I dig The Muppets too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 16 I made an acoustic guitar from raw wood. I'm quite proud of that.

One time I talked my way into Croatia when I had forgotten my passport too.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you want I can teach you to change a bike tire. As life skills go, I think that's pretty invaluable.

I could teach you some basic guitar, bouzouki or mandolin if you want. We can even jam! I'll even teach you the 10 or so words I know in Irish and Slovenian and Estonian.

If you're lucky, I'll teach you to make egg-nog out of just rum and ice.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Croatia, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Northern Ireland, Poland, Scotland, Slovenia, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In

Estonia, Northern Ireland, Slovenia
