About Me

Just finished my BSc in Amsterdam and now working in Ukraine for the summer, before starting my Master's in either Copenhagen (Denmark) or Lund (Sweden). I am broadly interested, quite open to do anything and easy with many different kinds of people. As I am thus not really living anywhere stable at the moment (and am unsure about where I will be living by the end of the summer), I cannot really host people myself. I really want to do this though, when I get a house/apartment where I can! (Oh, also I am a vegetarian!)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Many of my friends told me to start doing it, being a great way to both meet people and travel. Seeing these are two things I love, why not combine them? :-) I am starting this (at this moment) while working as an EU volunteer in Ukraine. Wanting to see more of the country than Sumy, I hope couchsurfing will allow me to do so!

Interests

Cooking (& eating!), reading, writing, traveling, meeting people, debating and just listening/talking to people (about anything really; philosophy, politics, religion, love and life in general, you name it), longboarding, ballet and other dance (salsa!), pick-nicking, going out (restaurants, pubs, theaters, ballets, operas, libraries, clubs, etc.), sailing/driving boats.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
Don't really mind anything, some of the bands on my current playlist are; alt-j, The National, The Naked & Famous, Ratatat, Foster the People, The Black Keys, Close Up, SOHN, Stromae, Kid Cudi, and when I study or read, I sometimes really like classical music. Music from when I was younger or that my parents play, is also cool (from the Spice Girls and Britney Spears to Laura Pausini, the Dire Straits, David Bowie, etc.).

Films:
All Disney films (you can wake me up for these!), Clueless, Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain, The Art of Flight, 180° South, 12 Years a Slave, Shutter Island, Django Unchained, The Prestige, Fight Club, etc. I also really like series, from Dexter, Game of Thrones to Pretty Little Liars, to Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Sex & the City and New Girl. Every now and then I also really enjoy to watch 'bad' films or even better, 'bad' series as this can be very relaxing to watch!

Books:
Currently reading Anna Karenina, and before I was reading A Clockwork Orange. Since school, I read many dystopian novels (eg. The Handmaid's Tale, 1984) and I enjoyed those a lot. There are some Dutch books I really liked as well (eg. The Discovery of Heaven by H. Mulisch). My all time favourite book series is probably Harry Potter (!!) Further, books on development, political science and international relations (not all the time though..).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This is so difficult, because I don't really want to pick one thing. Picking one, I will pick learning to skate/longboard. No one really thought I should or could do this. Many people often seem to have such set opinions about what I do or want to do. They don't think the things I do, are the right way to do them or whatever and the fact that I learnt this, made me feel like I proved these people wrong. Many of my travels (including this one in Ukraine) gave me that same feeling!

Teach, Learn, Share

Everyone has an interesting story to tell and I kind of want to "collect" these stories. I believe traveling and especially the people you meet, will teach more valuable lessons in life than any study can. In that sense I find it very fulfilling and want to do as much of it as possible. The best thing is often to "see through the eyes of a local" and I hope couchsurfing will find me some of these locals.
