About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I aim to dance through life, talk to strangers, and build stories I'd tell future generations about the interesting things I do.

ABOUT ME

I'm a co-oper, health food eater, beginning banjo player, cynical reader, loud laugher, feminist intellectual, queer, bicycle rider, yogini, and a few other things.

PHILOSOPHY

It takes daily effort to feel good about yourself and take care of yourself. Friends and loved ones are the best collaborators for this project. It's worth the effort.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I live in a beautiful old house in Eugene in the heart of the Whiteaker that is perfect for couch surfers to stay a few nights and enjoy Oregon.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As a teenager, I couchsurfed on accident once when I got lost on my way back to my actual host's house. I was walking back from a music festival and it was late, dark, and scary. A nice person invited me over, offered me a place to stay, and made me toast for breakfast the next morning. We had great conversations. I was inspired by stranger generosity and that feeling stays with me.

I love hosting! Hearing stories is one of my favorite things.

Interests

Hiking, backpacking, playing music with friends, dancing around the kitchen, reading, going to art galleries/museums, swimming in rivers, dancing, making crafts out of recycled materials. Bike touring!

Music, Movies, and Books

I really like the film You Can't Take it With you directed by Frank Capra. It reminds me of what the world would be like if everyone was into couchsurfing.

Recently my pals at the co-op and I have been learning to sing and play songs by Toto la Momposina. Super fun!

If you are having an existential crisis or just tired of reading books with no pictures, Lynda Barry's graphic stories are great.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I rode my bike from Eugene to San Francisco a few summers ago! I camped, swam, made friends, and saw amazing things along the way. Not to mention my legs got really strong.

Teach, Learn, Share

Homemade sauerkraut! Raw foods from the gardens of the northwest.

Sauerkraut has probiotics in there and when it is raw and fermented, it is more nutritious than regular cabbage. You will need: cabbage, non-iodized salt, a half gallon mason jar, an empty beer bottle, water.

1) chop up a bunch of cabbage
2) sprinkle a layer of it into the bottom of the jar. Then sprinkle a layer of salt on top (non-iodized).
3) start to pummel the salty cabbage with a wooden spoon or other implement.
4) repeat until you have an almost full jar
5) add enough water so that the top of the cabbage is just barely underwater
6)fill the beer bottle with water and set it on top of the cabbage so that it keeps it from floating to the surface
7) put your concoction in the pantry for a few weeks...then eat it!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My friends usually say they like to have me over because I cook them tasty food, do chores, and have a generally mellow effect on the household. I also like to tell funny stories. I'm happy to offer my hosts a nice home-cooked dinner followed by a clean kitchen.
