Come to Los Angeles. I look forward to meeting you!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I would like to meet people from around the world and make friends. The experience is a great one! I have traveled all over Taiwan, including Taipei, Taichung and Kenting. I have also been to Seoul, Korea both in the winter time and the springtime and twice to Okinawa, Japan. I have also visited Hong Kong and Boracay Island in the Philippines. Also, I am familiar with California and the United States. I have lived in San Francisco and also traveled to New York City. I have been to San Diego, Santa Barbara and Las Vegas. Let me guide you when you come!

Interests

I'm a quirky kind of character with interests ranging from learning Braille to collecting furniture. I love travel, meeting new people and learning new languages. I also would learn to cook! Bring your recipes from your country and let's enjoy it!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies:
Movies where nobody important dies (pointless). No sad endings please. Toilet humor and pornography not appreciated.
All 80s movies including ones I haven't watched yet.
G-rated Movies (DreamWorks kicks Pixar's ass!): How to Train Your Dragon, MegaMind
Old Movies: Breakfast at Tiffany's (though questionable now because after reading the book by Truman Capote I realize how chauvanist it is)
Foreign movies: Et Dieu Crea La Femme (French), Y tu Mama Tambien (Spanish), Three Idiots (Indian)
Movies where they make you use your brain: Memento (10 stars!); Limitless Movies with a twist to the ending (but not an obvious one like Sixth Sense): Gossip (surprise ending)
Bank Heist and Female Assassin Movies: The Thomas Crowne Affair (the remake not the original), Point of No Return (American version of La Femme Nikita which I'm currently comparing), The Long Kiss Goodnight (and any other movie where the female wields a gun), The Real McCoy (rather slow)

Books: Flowers for Algernon, The Color Purple, My Sister's Keeper, dystopic futuristic novels, science fiction puke and cheesy romance novels but only by Julie Garwood and Jude Devereux; Non-Fiction: Mean Genes, Why Men Don't Listen and Women Can't Read Maps; Historical Fiction - New Orleans Legacy; Biography - Catch Me If You Can

Songs: Foreign music sung in a different tongue where I don't have any idea what they're saying but I appreciate it anyway and can learn a new language while studying the lyrics. Chinese: JS (Taiwan), Cyndi Wong (Hong Kong) Spanish: Mecano (Spain), Mana (Mexico); Japanese: First Love by Utada Hikaru; Indian songs found in Bollywood movies, Songs in Korean, French, Italian. Phantom of the Opera collection, Opera by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman; New artists yet to be discovered (usually found busking on the Santa Monica Promenade) specifically Clare Means and Kawehi Folk - Ditty Bops; Children's: Justin Roberts; Religious: Weeping Willow; Rap - Def Harmonic; Country - Deanna Carter; Norah Jones, Diana Krall. Alternative: No Doubt Modern Pop: Habits by Tove Lo

TV shows: Three's Company (family favorite, grew up on it, have the entire collection and all episodes memorized), Boston Legal (Law and Order with a twist complete with David Spader's wry wit and William Shatner's dumbness), Grey's Anatomy (ER but with sex scandals), Twilight Zone

Colors: Sky Blue (as a child, and only because my older sister already claimed pink); Royal Purple (as a teenager because it's royalty and looks good on me); Pink (as a young adult because that's what girls like) and Silver (more recently, as evidenced by the purse I bought in Taipei where the stickers keep peeling off!!!

Food: Eggplant (while in Taipei), Avocado (while in California), Thai Food (the best is in San Francisco), Onion / Garlic Naan, Mexican Food (especially chile relleno), Plantains, Japanese Food - potato croquettes not Sushi or Ramen except the one in Okinawa, Taiwanese Food but only Lu Rou on Rice and Pickled Cabbage, Italian Food: Basil Pizza, Cannelloni, Mannicotti, Dessert: Tiramisu, Cheesecake, Bavarian Creme Pie, Sweets: ALL kinds of chocolate and candy and gum, Fruit: Apples Chips: Seaweed chips, Taro flavored chips and Sea Salt Chips

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For two years, I taught English abroad in Asia. It was an amazing experience and I am currently writing a memoir about it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a zest for learning languages. Please teach me your language! Whatever you speak, I would like to learn! If you only speak English, that's ok! I can teach you another language! I can speak Chinese and Spanish. Do you want to improve your English? I will teach you!
