About Me

HELLO.

My name is Feliclity but most people call me Flick.

In the past I shared this profile with my superstar razzle-dazzle friend, Ra. We travelled overland to Pakistan together. We are very good friends with magical powers.

In the working-world, I am an architect. I am more interested in the urban environment than isolated 'beautiful' buildings. My research passion is the process of rapid urbanisation. In particular informal settlement areas within the city; areas disproportionately affected by the effects of climate change and war.

Right now I am interning with the United Nations in Bangkok. I work in the Urban Policy Division of UNESCAP's Sustainable Urban Development branch.

I have just moved to Bangkok so cannot pretend to an expert or offer much of an insight into the city. I am keen to explore the city though so when I have time would be happy to join in any adventures.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While travelling and hitching overland through Turkey, Iran and Pakistan, it was the people along the way that made it such a delight. It was then I feel in love with the true beauty of Couchsurfing.

Interests

I especially enjoy experiencing the extreme spectrum of things on offer in the world: Ying and Yangs such as climbing mountains in Pakistan to rolling in desert sand; camping in the country to exploring mega-cities; gardening in the morning and then going to work on construction sites; hip-hop beats followed by classical music.

Qualities of passion and drive are traits I admire in others. I am liberal in my opinions, staunchly opposed to bigoted, racists and sexists views, meditate, enjoy yoga, and generally care for the world and others. But at the same time, I love my job and am career-driven so I would say my days of being checked out of society and travelling purely for fun are behind me. I am at a point in my life where I believe in working hard and putting energy into creating a change in the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: hip hop, electronica, minimal, cheesy 80s beats, classical chill vibes, soul. olfaur arnalds.

Screen: The Wire.

Books: Steinbeck taught me to see the simple beauty in places. Top books include 'Amerika' by Kafka; 'A Fraction of the Whole' by Steve Toltz; 'Sputnik Sweetheart' by Murakami.

David Foster Wallace's 'This Is Water' is top notch!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Got stuck in a hail storm while motorbiking with friends in Pakistan, thought we might die, but ended up seeing nine brown bears in the wild.

Teach, Learn, Share

Sight-seeing and 'ticking boxes' when visiting a place can be a bore. There is much more magic in observing a place, people, creatures, and listening.

Unfortunately, I cannot offer you much of an insight into Bangkok as I have only just moved here. But happy to learn with you and share the little experience I do have thus far.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like to share the many things: time, thoughts, ideas, stories, tears, laughter, futures , cooking, cheese, wine etc etc.

If you are a wine enthusiast: red wine.
