About Me

Hi! My name is Roselyn, I am British student from London who is currently at the University of Manchester studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

I have just completed a semester abroad at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and am travelling around Canada, the USA and Mexico before returning home at the beginning of July.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on couchsurfing as I am looking for places to stay while I travel where I can meet interesting people! I have only ever been travelling with a group of friends which is why it is often easier to book hostels/hotels but this will be the first time ever that I will be travelling on my own so I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to try out couchsurfing. I think that couchsurfing is a great way to meet people and experience the best parts of a town/city from the perspective of someone who lives there. Some of my friends who were also on exchange at the University of Massachusetts are currently travelling the States too and have told me that they have had positive experiences through couchsurfing which is why I am keen to give it a go.

Interests

One thing that I (and probably most couchsurfers) love to do is to travel. I have travelled to a few countries in Europe and Asia before, usually for short trips. I hope that I will be able to visit more places after I finish my studies. Coming to the US on exchange was my first big trip. Since my college was in Massachusetts, I did quite a few weekend trips to New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington. I really enjoyed visiting these cities as they have a lot of history (despite it being bitterly cold at the time!). I have recently done a road trip in Canada going from Quebec city to Montreal and then to Toronto. After that, I did a road trip stating from Denver going to places such as Vegas, San Francisco and LA, stopping at smaller towns and national parks along the way. At the moment I am spending two and a half weeks touring around Mexico. There are still more places in the US that I really want to go to and plan to return to the US after Mexico and stay until Independence Day.

I enjoy taking long walks/hiking somewhere that has a beautiful view. During the two week roadtrip (From Denver to LA), I had a lot of fun hiking up places such as the Red Rock Mountain, Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park and Mount Hollywood.

Whenever I visit a new place I am always interested in finding out what the local famous foods/cuisines are. My travels around North America this year was definitely no exception to that, I have enjoyed foods that I aren't as common in England such as philly cheese steaks, Texas BBQ, jerk chicken, poutine, deep dish pizza, clam chowder (and the list can go on!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been skydiving several times (on my own!). I had to take a one day course which taught me how to jump out of a plane properly and other safety measures (like what to do when the parachute malfunctions!). I have jumped 3 times now and it was amazing every time. I would have liked to do it more but unfortunately its quite an expensive hobby to keep up. My first time jumping actually didn't end very well, but this is a story that will be much easier told in person :)

Teach, Learn, Share

If you happen to want learn Vietnamese then I can teach you some.

I often enjoy learning about the hidden gems of a town/city. I like to experience new things that most tourists don't go to or know about.

I can also share my British accent :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a positive attitude and I'm keen to meet new people. I will respect your house (and couch) and will provide some good company! I will also be more than happy to help wash up dishes and clean around the house.
