Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have yet to try CouchSurfing myself, but look forward to the opportunity to do so in the very near future (starting this summer!). Have only heard amazing things about CS from my friends who have given it a try, but have lived with various host families throughout my many travels mainly in the US, but also abroad.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh, this could be a hard one.... I am interested in so much out there when it comes to music- particularly the beats and rhythms that are hard to resist dancing to. I am a fan of international films. I look to catch more of the filmmaker's opinion and cultural aspects of the film rather than cheesy plot lines that you can predict the entire movie from. Books that I have showed a reoccurring interest in are religious or cultural based to the Middle East. Anything that can explain more what it is like to grow up there, I'm all for! Other than that, I really am very open to a variety of music, movies, and books. Just so long as the time is well spent. :D

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-Witnessed 'dia de los santos' over lunch with a perfect balcony view above Cusco's center courtyard as floats of saints and hundred of participants passed from one iglecia to the next
-Soaked up the sun in San Fransisco while volunteering at a needle exchange program
-Went on the 'wild thing' at Valleyfair amusement park...and here's the surprise- LOVED IT!
-Assisted a stranger in delivering her baby girl
-Hiked on Mount Hood in Portland, OR when the berries were budding below, and the snow still falling at the peak
-And one of my favorites-every day seeing the sunrise and sunset

Teach, Learn, Share

I have this idea that people are truly all equal. I find it hard to believe that anyone gets to pick where exactly he or she grows up, in what kind of culture, in what kind of language, in what kind of religion. Therefore, I tend to see more similarities in people than differences. Nevertheless, I treasure diversity and how it has allowed us all to become individuals with creative minds and consciousness.
