About Me

CURRENT MISSION

One day I will live or work abroad, speak a second language, write something that gets published, and find a semi-athletic pursuit that I can master.

ABOUT ME

I crave variety in all aspects of life. I live for travel, interesting places, new experiences, connecting with others. A perfect day is a day spent in a city I've never visited before, wandering through a local market, laying on the beach, or touring a vineyard. When at home in DC, I'm at my happiest when I'm in the kitchen preparing a meal for friends or curled up outside in my hammock with a good book.

PHILOSOPHY

After a while you learn that
even sunshine burns
if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul,
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to CS, and almost as new to traveling solo. I'll be in Asia for a few weeks this spring and am looking to meet fun people to eat, drink, and explore with!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

No "formal" organized surfing for me yet (if there is such a thing?!) but my last great trip was in Belgrade, Serbia crashing a friend's pad after she went to live in Eastern Europe for a year.

I had the time of my life exploring a little-traveled Balkan city and experiencing it through the eyes of someone who knew the ins and outs of a place that I otherwise wouldn't have been very likely to visit... and I learned that Serbian meat patties procured at 4am are the world's greatest hangover cure.

Interests

Long trips. Short trips. Visiting Spanish-speaking countries and improving my language skills one conversation at a time. Fitting as much into a trip as I possibly can. Fitting as much into a weekend at home as I possibly can. Entertaining. Hosting. Cooking. Wine. New people. New foods. New restaurants. Live music. Live theater. Live sports. Fanatically following DC blogs and staying on top of neighborhood news and events. Being outside. Beach. Sun. Skiing. Snow. Exploring without any real plans.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spending Thanksgiving Day in the Belgrade, hosting a full American Thanksgiving spread for a crazy group that included friends old and new from all corners of the world. Bringing the Balkans a massive turkey, sweet potato casserole, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, and a smorgasboard of other things generally impossible to be found or procured east of the Bosnian border definitely made for a holiday to remember.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands, France, Germany, Hungary, Jamaica, Japan, Mexico, Monaco, Peru, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom
