About Me

Hi! I'm Rowan and I'm a 3D artist by trade but am also a pianist/guitarist and photographer, and I do some bartending and cooking jobs as well. I'm really into a lot of things, so I try to dip my toes into everything. I absolutely love to travel and went all around the US in my Gap Year couchsurfing. Then came university and the Covid lockdown, so I've been out of the game for a while and itching to get out there again and do some real travelling!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is just a great way to travel, not only do you get see amazing new places but you also experience them through the eyes of a local and see a side to places that you wouldn't otherwise. I had some incredible experiences when I last couchsurfed in the US, from dumpster diving in New Orleans to staying at an art house in Detroit.

Interests

I'm into a bit of everything really! I love photography, filmmaking, 3D art, music (playing and listening!), food, cooking, mixology, hiking, urban exploration, right now parkour is the next thing I'd love to get into!

Music, Movies, and Books

Where to start!? I'm usually either listening to or playing music. I love jamming with other people and exploring new instruments, right now I play the piano and the guitar but I've also bought a melodica in preparation for my trip to New Orleans. I listen to a lot of jazz, but also hip-hop, house, brazilian, folk, rock, prog, jungle, drum n bass, pop and soundtracks.

When it comes to movies the weirder the better often, I'm a longstanding lover of 90s indie, especially Jim Jarmusch and Richard Linklater, and recently dipped my toes into the world of Hong Kong comedies with the God of Cooking by Stephen Chow.

I'm reading a lot of Spanish literature at the moment to practice, currently reading El coronel no tiene quien le escriba by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- Taught (well...teaching!) myself jazz piano

- Wild camped in an ancient Caledonian pine forest in Scotland

- Backpacked and couchsurfed around North and South America when I was just 18

Teach, Learn, Share

I love the idea of learning about an unusual new skill or pastime from my host, as well as sharing some of my own skills (or even teach them!) I also love learning about people's stories and experiences of different places, especially those I had no idea about beforehand!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I play the guitar and the piano (and soon the melodica) so if you're a musician we should jam! I could also teach you a few things about music if you're interested (and vice versa). I'm a passionate cook so I'd be more than happy to cook you some meals and hopefully introduce you to some dishes you might not have heard of before! I'm an experienced photographer and 3D artist so I can also give some tips on that.
