About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Living simply, eating well, enjoying life... planting trees, revegitating Hawke's Bay with Native trees & shrubs. Am passionate about nature and adventure.. I love journeys, especially river journeys in my open canoe.
ABOUT ME
NZ born, third generation kiwiboy with Norwegian & English on one side and a Celtic - English combo on the other. I live a pretty full life and my work and recreation tend to blur somewhat... I like to keep active in mind, body and spirit. Once a passionate outdoor educator and adventurer, I'm now slightly less focussed on pushing the mind / body and more inclined to connect with the adventure landscape. I'd love to replant a thousand acres of marginal farmland here in Hawke's Bay back into native trees / shrubs and grow old listening to the birdsong.
PHILOSOPHY
So the above provides insights I am sure... I have values I live by... mostly to do with family, and ecological and social justice (which really are all the same thing!).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Happy to host folks from around the globe... am not traveling at the moment though have just returned from some great adventures in US and eastern Canada. Hoping to get to Brazil in 2013... so for now really enjoying sharing our wee bit of paradise here in Hawke's Bay to interesting and engaging people.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I was once a keen hitch hiker, and LOVED meeting people and exploring new places. The trend continues, in that i still pick up hitchers and plenty of travelers have hung out at our place... I enjoy meeting other kiwis and people from around the world.
Interests
Am a passionate educator and like to think I am reasonably in touch with the post, post-modern world... which i spend time critiquing often. So I participate via my work, in terms of challenging mainstream assumptions and worldviews about things that seem to matter... mostly around our consumption-oriented lifestyles. I am also involved with a number of ecologically-oriented trusts in NZ and committed to eco-and social justice issues.
