About Me

I just finished my bachelors degree in Economics at Kansas State University and now work in Kansas City. I have a passion for Latin America and travel there as often as possible to work on my Spanish. I hope to run my own NGO eventually. Otherwise, I LOVE to travel! My favorite way to travel is to show up in a country with a backpack and just go with the flow. I'm definitely a foodie, so new foods excite me as long as they aren't too exotic, haha- I'm not the type of person who would enjoy eating cow anus or something. (Watch- now someone on here is going to tell me they love cow anus!)
I know my profile makes me seem very serious, but I can be a ton of fun.... I just like to be respectful. If my host is quiet, I have no issue being quite, chilling out, and going to bed early. If my host wants to have fun and go out, I'm down.
I'm pretty laid back.

If you write me on here and notice that I haven't logged in for a while-just email me. roxannebunnell5@gmail.com. I don't always check this site and I don't get notifications.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am a college student and mother. I have to keep costs down and I want my children to meet new people and learn how to respond to being in others homes vs. a hotel. I'm trying to teach my children how to speak to people in a manner that will allow them to be more successful in life, both watching for "stranger danger" and body language, and learning how to interact with others and ask them questions that will allow them to gain knowledge through storytelling. They are very well behaved, but I don't have a lot of people over to the house. (With three kids and full time courses, I just don't have a lot of free time) I think it's important for them to meet people from all walks of life. It's one thing for me to explain that I have traveled the world and met so many interesting people... it's another thing to show them.
If I'm by myself traveling then I want to meet new people and see what the locals do! I'm all about getting in the tourist spots, but I find that the best finds are the local dives, the trails nobody knows about, and the parks that aren't known by everyone.

Interests

I really enjoy getting outdoors. I love hiking and walking, biking, pretty much anything where I can enjoy some sunshine and nature. I try to dive in every country I go to, however, I'm scared of fish. En serio.

Music, Movies, and Books

Netflix guilty pleasure: Archer! It's outside of what I would normally watch, but I just can't help and love a show with all of the witty banter and hilarious innuendos!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't really consider much of what I do to be outside the norm because it's what I do normally. My friends say I do pretty cool things, but again... most of the people I meet who travel as much as I do say the same things- so it's normal in my circle. I really enjoy being able to help people, so I guess the most amazing thing I can do, have done, and hope to do more of, is inspire people to get involved in their passions and produce positive results in their lives and the lives of others. I participate in a two day breast cancer walk every year and have raised a little over $13,000 in four walks.

Teach, Learn, Share

I spent some time overseas in a non-traditional place. The people of that country were very nice (at least the ones that I met) spoke fluent English, and had a really positive outlook on where their country was heading. They wanted to be agents of change within their nation, with insurmountable challenges facing them. It's nice to know that even in the face of bleak odds, new generations still look to the future.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a wealth of travel knowledge and have met some pretty amazing people along the way! I have a lot of stories, many of which people tell me are pretty interesting. I'm sure you have some too! I think couch surfing is a site for people who like to travel, or at the very least, from the profiles I have seen... it appears to be as such.
