Hey there, my name's Roy and I'm a student at Edinburgh. I grew up in London and I lived there pretty much my whole life until going up to Scotland for university. I'm also currently on an exchange in Canada and honestly it feels great jumping around countries and experiencing different cultures. Nothing better than getting out of your comfort zone eh?

I like to think I'm a fairly relaxed person and I'm always down to try new things. Love a good discussion over a drink or two.

There's something different to just staying at a hotel and actually going out of your way to meet new people to stay with them. Having hiked around Mont Blanc, meeting many people on the way and learning new things, I thought it would be a refreshing experience to try couchsurfing.

As well as this because couchsurfing is free this means that the people you meet along the way are genuine and have a lot to share. As a student abroad wanting to see new things nothing could be better than these combined can they.

Here's some bands: Kaleo, Seafret, Hozier, Nothing But Thieves, Khalid, Chet Faker, Glass Animals, Jose Gonzalez, Royal Blood, Vance Joy, Ben Howard, Florence + The Machine, Maroon 5 etc.

In general I like alternative rock, indie rock, acoustic and the pop genres but I'll listen to songs from any genre as long as it's my vibe. If you were wondering All Star is definitely my vibe.

Boy I have a list of every movie I've seen so I'll give you some of my favourites: The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Prestige, Fight Club, Whiplash, Baby Driver, Thor Ragnarok, Inception and who doesn't love some old Studio Gibli movies.

I'd give you a long list of the books I've read in my time but to be honest with you I'm not a big reader! I'm trying to get more into them by starting with books by Haruki Murakami.

Whilst I was a Royal Air Force cadet in school I once flew a propeller airplane and did some aerobatics!

I'm actually half Japanese so if you're interested I could teach you some of that! Perhaps you'll be wanting to know swear words and I shall provide my wisdom.

I'm also a photographer for my home university so if you're ever interested in chatting about these topics or giving the skill a try I could try help you out in those aspects!

I'm always keen to learn and talk about new cultures. Perhaps I can share a bit of my experiences such as what it's like to be studying in Scotland, or the differences between Japan and western societies, or y'know, anything which pops to mind!

Having lived in university residence for many years I know the importance of cleaning and helping each other out in the living spaces. If there's anything I can be of aid of I'll be glad to help whatever it is!

I also cook a mean mean chilli con carne for those interested.
