About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To learn Thai language! I'm heading to South Thailand and I am learning Thai (very slowly!). I'd like to meet new friends and hosts who can help! I also want to visit Thai jungle and meet people who live in the jungle / rainforest.
Previous missions included....
To explore the deep old forests of Europe - Poland and Slovenia - with my father, in May 2015.
Also: to meet and live with some traditional hunter-gatherers! To improve my bush-skills and knowledge of wild foods, and to improve my understanding of the human relationship with nature.
ABOUT ME
My friends say I am kind, friendly, enthusiastic, genuine, intellectual, sociable, energetic, cheerful. They also say I am deep (!), interested in other cultures and peoples, unconventional, an alternative thinker.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
In future I would like to host, and also to meet surfers and hang out. At present, I am surfing/travelling.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have met some good friends through Couchsurfing already, even before I joined, because a good friend of mine hosted surfers in Johannesberg during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. I loved meeting people from all over the world and enjoyed sharing their enthusiasm, openness, and interest in exploring!
Interests
My deepest passions are nature, walking, dancing, and connecting with friends. I work as a wilderness guide and safari guide in South Africa, and also spend my free time hiking in the mountains and learning about edible wild plants and traditional cultures. I care about the state of the environment and about social issues. I am also interested in meditation, traditional music, and I want to learn a foreign language....

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Sitting alone quietly with my back against a rock, watching sunset over the Umfolozi river...Beauty, peace, the magical power of wild nature, without words.
Dancing freely in 'Five Rhythms' dance classes - my favourite route to ecstacy and bliss :)
Feeling deeply touched when a close friend - or a stranger - shares something very personal with me, and trusts me to listen.
Tracking tigers in the rainforest in Thailand, and seeing footprints so fresh the sand was still moving...!
There are so many more....
Teach, Learn, Share
SHARE: I've travelled all over the world and lived in Europe, America, Asia and Africa. I enjoy sharing experiences from those years.
I love learning languages and I'm interested to practice my (intermediate) French and (beginners) German and Spanish...
TEACH: I can teach:
How to make fire by rubbing sticks together.
How to do circular breathing to play the didgeridoo.
Basic meditation techniques.
Anything to do with English (I've been a professional writer and editor).
I'm a wilderness/safari guide in South Africa and very happy to share what I know about wildlife, plants, Cape Town, and the country I live in.
LEARN: I want to learn: Local languages, songs, dances, customs, traditions...
I want to learn about nature and traditional skills for living off the land...
