About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore the world and get to know many of its diverse inhabitants!

ABOUT ME

I am adventurous, creative, fun loving, delightful, spontaneous, insightful, talented, a good cook, and a loud laugher. I like to push my own limits and see just how courageous I can be in the face of fear. Travel has been a great way for me to do this. That and climbing….whew!!

I grew up in a family of artists, and unsurprisingly I am an artist as well. My medium of preference changes constantly, but at the moment I’m really into photography. I also enjoy sewing and clothing design. My parents have made hats for longer than I've been alive (check out their website www.hatpeople.com), so I've been sewing ever since I could reach the peddle of my mom's machine. One of my favorite things to do is take clothes that I like the fabric of and change them into something else. I call it upcycling.

I love to cook good food. I don’t like to cook terribly often, but when I do I go all out. And every time is different. I hardly ever follow recipes, and when I rarely do it’s never exact. I like to experiment with flavor, texture and combinations of different foods. It’s so much fun to me to be creative in the kitchen. In fact, it’s always fun to be creative in general : )

Speaking Spanish is another thing I love to do. I studied it all through high school, then in Guatemala for a couple months, in college for about a year and a half, and finally in Mexico for a full year. About half way through my stay in Mexico people started to think I was from there! Now that was a great compliment to my learning of the language!
The thing I enjoy most about learning another language is all the weird summer-salts my brain goes through in the different stages of the learning process. I would like to learn more languages.....especially Italian, Norwegian and French. Or any other language that shows itself as bait to my eager mind. ; )

PHILOSOPHY

Do whatever scares you the most.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surf and I host!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've only done a little couch surfing as far as this site goes, but I have stayed at many people's houses in my travels, and I've had plenty of people stay at my house in theirs. So this is kind a modernized version of what I've already been doing for years.

Interests

Speaking Spanish, singing, beat boxing, dancing, climbing, hiking, exploring, traveling, painting, drawing, taking pictures, writing, sewing, gardening, upcycling, playing with my kitten, cooking and eating….yum.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like funny movies....NOT horror movies. Ugh. I don't understand why people like to sit around and feel TENSE for an hour or two. I would much rather laugh! I also like movies that are educational, like documentaries and just plain ol' GOOD movies.
I like music that makes me want to dance.
I like books that help me learn more about myself and the world. I'll only pick up a novel if it's like REALLY FREAKING GOOD.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling alone in Mexico was an incredible experience. I studied abroad there through my college in 2010. I was busy with school during the spring and fall, but I had a month off during the summer so I could travel. I went from Guanajuato, Mexico City, through Oaxaca, to the coast, then up through Chiapas, to San Christobal de las Casas, then La Laguna Miramar, to Palenque, then Tulum and finally to Cancun to fly back to Mexico City and get “home” to Guanajuato. It was so liberating to just be my backpack and me, out in the world. I met so many people and learn a ton about myself and the awe-inspiring country of Mexico.

Teach, Learn, Share

What I have to teach: Sewing, creative and healthy cooking and The Five Tibetans (a 2,500 year old practice that strengthens the core and improves posture).

What I'd like to learn: Any and all languages, dance forms, food preservation, any and all crafting/art techniques, leather working, shoe making, primitive skills, plant knowledge, and whatever else you have to teach...I am a very curious person and I like to learn all kinds of things!
