About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see all that I haven't seen and all that I've been told can't be seen.

ABOUT ME

I'd say I'm a reluctant but compulsive wanderer. I love going places and seeing new things, but there's definitely a part of me that likes to establish friendships and have a feeling of home. Traveling is something I aspire to, I guess. Kind of like art, poetry, photography and the rest. Except for music, where I willingly throw myself.

I prefer good conversations with a small group over loud parties. Prefer good beer over lots of beer. Prefer dry red wines over sweet whites. Prefer to hear jazz, blues and classical live...just doesn't do much for me on an album.

I love talking about all those things that get people in trouble: theology, politics, ethics, music (though I guess that one's pretty tame).

PHILOSOPHY

I am wonderfully and fearfully made, constantly in denial and ignorance of it, captivated by (good) music, woeful of the way the world, involved less than I should be in changing it, pissed at the government, awed by creation, enraged at it's destruction, an advocate for life lived (as well as for making sure that this is possible for others), captivated by true religion, consistently wrong about what constitutes it, angry, disheartened, hopeful, seeking, thankful, joyful, LOVED.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I'm mostly a benefactor, but I would love to host whenever! Did get to host once though and it was a great experience.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I pretty much couch surfed through an entire semester of grad. school (though I paid rent, so I don't know if that really counts). Other than that, I spent a month hopping around southern Europe, couch surfing as much as I could, and I've used it a couple times traveling in the States. Still waiting till I can live somewhere cool enough to host others.

Interests

Music: listening, playing, writing; Reading: philosophy, theology, poetry; guitar..stuff, good conversation, theological debates, laughing, coffee-ing?, finding new bands, concerts, ethics, Morning Star Chicken Patties, the colour red, spelling words like the British, making/watching drinks swirl, protecting the environment, thrift stores, old/retro electronics, CD artwork, good lyrics, making use of perfectly good puddles, log fires, and pacifism.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sorry, there's no way to pick just ONE.

Teach, Learn, Share

In encountering differences (in religion, in culture, etc.), I'm not sure "tolerance" is what we need. I'm not sure I even have a clear idea of what that means in those contexts. When and why did we stop using the word "respect"? Isn't that what we need, isn't that what we're called to?
