Hi all, my name is Ruben and I'm from the Netherlands. I am now 22 years old, and I am (already) a 4-year student in the beautiful young student-rich city of Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands. I live there with 2 of my friends in a very old house, which is the perfect student experience you want to have!
I am done with my Bachelors degree in Medicine in July, and am starting my residency (is it called that in English?) in the hospital in July 2025. I did this, so I can see more of the world in the period I don't have to study! I am planning to leave after the summer, somewhere in September, to the eastern part of Asia. There I will probably first travel South Korea and Japan, and then Southeast-Asia. I still have to plan everything though, so I have no idea if I will still do this when it's time haha...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to be on Couchsurfing, because I think it's the best way to connect with other people and see the city I'm visiting! I can look up on the internet what sights I have to see, but I think it's a lot better when a local can tell me. I am blessed to have been able to visit some countries, but I want to see a lot more of the world, so it's also amazing Couchsurfing enables me to do it more cheaply ;).

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is one of my favorite things in the world. I listen to a ton of Spotify, where I listen to all kinds of music and even more and more podcasts. My taste in music is a bit arbitrary, because I will listen to almost everything. I like the traditional Dutch songs (you have to give it a try, like the new student hits from Roxy Dekker), but also German Schlager (Ein Stern, Hulapula, et cetera) I really like. But I will mostly listen to funky disco music, house, techno and a bit of pop.
In terms of movies, I watch almost everything haha. What I don't watch are dramas or romcoms, but everything else, from action movies to scifi to documentaries, I will watch.
Books I also don't read a ton of anymore, but I will read magazines about travel, languages, science and medicine.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I really hope I can share my friendliness and optimism with you. I also am fluent in Dutch, so if you want to know soms words and fun sentences, I can help you with that (who wouldn't want that??)
I also don't say no to a party, so if you are in for it, I would probably go with you! I can sing like an angel, so some karaoke is also not a bad idea.
In terms of chores, I can of course help you with everything. I am open to do anything (also the dirty tasks) and I am (alas) not a chef in a restaurant, but even then I would happily help out with it!
