About Me

I'm born and raised in Amsterdam, in Holland. Afteral several internships at production companies, I've graduated at the University of Amsterdam in Mediastudies (masters). I have lived in Brazil for half a year, in Rio and Sao Paulo, where I made good friends whom I still visit en keep in touch with.
I now work as an editor in chief at the VPRO - Dutch Public Broadcasting Service - where I produce documentaires, television formats, series, podcasts and more.

Besides my work, I love to have dinner with friends, go out, I listen to Afrobeat all day, I love to sing and play guitar (and used to, but not anymore), I read a lot, watch documentaries and films, for sports I run (I did a half marathon this year in Edinburgh), I love to cook, to talk for hours and hours with friends and family, I'm very curious, optimistic and social.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

During the time I lived in Brazil, I've noticed how important it is to get to know a country through staying with people and by connecting with the inhabitants, in stead of moving from hostel to hostel (which I did for a couple of weeks in the North of Brazil, and which I didn't like that much).
I've worked in a hostel in Rio for a while, where I got to know many people - for example the owner, but also the people who worked there, the cleaning lady, the security guys etc. I've got to know the neighbors and started to speak Portuguese. After that I lived in Sao Paolo and stayed with a Brazilian family - of which nobody could speak any English. There I learned to speak Portuguese fluently and I became really close with that family (I visited them twice since then and they visited me as well, we still keep in touch).
Furthermore, I've had two great experiences in Brazil and in Italy through couchsurfing, and I'm sure I've never had that experience if I had stayed in a hostel with other tourists. And that's why I'm on Couchsurfing, because I truly believe in the concept of it, and want to participate by hosting people in Amsterdam and staying with people in other countries.
