About Me
Hi I´m Kevin from Hamburg in northern Germany.
Three weeks ago i handed in my master`s thesis and now i am taking three month of before focusing on finding a job. I studied industrial engineering with the focus on renewable energy systems and worked next to my studies for a company who builts offshore wind farms. That's why I hope to be able to get a Job in the wind industry, but I will see that. :)
I moved to Hamburg for my master studies and before that I studied in a very small town called Clausthal-Zellerfeld in the middle of germany. My hometown is Kiel which is even farer up north than Hamburg, so I came closer to my roots again. :) As my hometown is a middle sized town and Clausthal-Zellerfeld is a very small one I came to Hamburg to experience living in a big city, altough I expected me not to like it too much. And I did need a couple of month to get used to it but I can say that I am a big fan of Hamburg now.
I think I can say that i am joyfull person. I use to laugh about random things. I like to be busy. Not necessarily working but also in my free time. During school I had the change to go to Argentina for one year as an exchange student. Although that was already 2008/2009 I think it really had an impact on who I am today. I got to know a different culture and a different way of living. The people I met showed me what is real kindness and hospitality is. Beeing 17 years old back than I understood that my way of thinking or living is not the best for everyone. It encouraged me to be open-minded and respectful towards others. I learned spanish, I learned to love the argentinian mentality, music and food. Probably that year is the reason why I like traveling. It may sound a bit cheesy but I really think like that about my year in argentina. That's why I am happy that this June I will finally see my argentinean friends and family again.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
As I said above I already had the chance to travel through a few countries and was lucky to spend one year in argentina. There i learned to appreciate the company of argentinean people becouse thats how you really get an idea of the country you are visiting. Plus this May I will be travelling for the first time on my own and I hope that via couchsurfing I will be able to meet friendly people from Peru.
The second thing is that i enjoy telling guests about germany and if possible showing them my hometown and Hamburg. I cant offer a place to stay for couchsurfers at the moment as im not often at home and i haven't got space in my department but whenever a friend from abroad visits me i love being there host. I believe that while getting to know other countries i also learned to appreciate the things i have at home and the positive things of my hometown. Maybe it was only theire politeness but i felt like that they liked "my way of living" and the place i live in. And I believe thats a good feeling when others think that the things youre doing and the place you live in is nice. Furthermore I see a huge value in meeting people from other countries and cultures and a exchange can be really enriching.
Interests
The majority of my free time i am spending with sports. I like to play handball (a sport very popular in northern germany and also in europa in general) and football but also cycling. Generally i am a quite active person. So last year i went hiking in the alps and in the winter i like skiing. I like to try new things. Thats why last year I signed in for a marathon and after half a year of training more or less constantly I managed to finish it. I also took some tennis classes. The next thing I would like to try is kitesurfing and I really hope that I manage to take some clases this year. :)
Besides of that I like spending time with my friends and I am having fun playing table tennis in the park or playing board games as the settlers of catan or game of thrones. Also I am always up to having a beer or cafe anywere in town.
...and i have a nerdy side as i am quite interested in history and geography and especially greek mythology. This does not mean that i am an expert on these issues but i like reading books and watching documentaries about these topics.
