About Me

Hello everyone, my name is Ruohan (or Roro/Ro/Ru)!

I have recently graduated from university in Australia, where I studied a double degree in Arts (German Studies) and Law. I was born in China, grew up in New Zealand and have also lived in Freiburg and Berlin in Germany. I have been yo-yoing between many different countries in the last few years, and I couldn't imagine life any other way. I will be starting work in 2018, so I will be travelling for 5 months to enjoy freedom before I submit myself to the daily 9-5 grind!

In my spare time I like to eat hummus, go op-shopping, brunch, watch movies and write in my diary, and my favourite things to do while travelling are riding on trains, watching the sunset and sunrise from new corners of the world and finding the best local eats! :)

I'm a very open-minded, easy-go-lucky, respectful and tidy guest, and I hope to make many more wonderful friends and memories in my travels.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing because I had some great experiences the last time I went travelling around Europe. Now that I am older, I feel I have a lot more to offer and share. I was blown away last time by the generosity, helpfulness and kindness of the hosts I stayed with, and I want to continue seeing and learning more about the world through the eyes of the locals.

For me, getting to know the locals is the best way to immerse yourself in the culture and really understand the place you are travelling to. Couchsurfing is an excellent way for not only cultural exchange, but also experiencing the colourfulness, vibrancy and kindness of humanity.

Interests

Everything is an exciting adventure and task, so I am open to doing anything. But if I had to choose...I guess my favourite thing to do would be to eat local food, walk for the whole day, visit a gallery and then enjoying a nice beverage to wind down at the end of the day.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite film eras are the 70s and 90s and I also enjoy watching European film (especially German film). I do have a soft spot for mafia/gangster/mob films, a la the Godfather and historically inaccurate blockbusters like Gladiator. I like reading dystopian novels, Asian-American literature and memoir and 19th Century Victorian chick lit. Some of my guilty pleasures include Pride & Prejudice, Jane Eyre and Gone with the Wind. I enjoy all music genres, but find myself always going back to something with a thumping bass line...!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love sharing stories, learning new perspectives and discussing current issues over good food! I would be happy to cook dinner for my hosts, teach them the languages I can speak, help also clean around the house (I like things to be tidy!) and share with them things from my own cultural background.
