About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to leave a wee footprint

ABOUT ME

Hello, Hola, Hei, Sawatdee

I'm currently on a cycling adventure with my friend Bella and our bikes Arthur and Jasper. We set off from Somerset in the south of England - destination Istanbul.

Before setting off on these two wheels, I was living on an island in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, working for for a small charity which supports community land ownership in Scotland - a growing movement which is helping bring back more of Scotland's land into the hands of more of Scotland's people.

I studied linguistics at the University of Edinburgh and for a year as an Erasmus student in the North of Norway, which is where I have had the majority of my couchsurfing experiences (mostly hosting northen-lights hunters!) - all of these I have enjoyed immensely.

I loved my work and am now relishing this adventure; I love to meet people who also love what they do. There's nothing like sharing knowledge about something you are passionate about...

I am as involved in environmental and social justice campaigning as I can be and love the pure determination that comes with people who want to make a positive change. We all have our part to play.

PHILOSOPHY

To leave a short-lasting mark on the earth, a long-lasting mark on the people I meet in it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have had some wonderful hosting experiences and loo forward to more in the future following my travels, for the moment myself and my cycling accomplice, Bella, will be looking for some places to stay and meet folk along the way.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted several times - giving me the opportunity to meet a wonderful range of people and I have relished each of these experiences.

I have surfed a couple of times in Norway and in Scotland. Perhaps the best endorsement for couchsurfing coming from my experience couchsurfing while I had an interview for a job in Stornoway which then took me to the Outer Hebrides and ended up giving me a fantastic house to rent during my time there and a host of now close friends into the bargain! I am ever thankful for that hosting and that I didn't choose to stay in a hostel!

Interests

Im vegetarian - I love communal cooking, learning new veggie/vegan recipes.

I love to travel. slowly. and cleanly. I try to fly as little as possible and think gazing out of a train window is a real treat.

I love being outdoors.

Anything with Marmite (that, by the way, is not Vegemite).

Music, Movies, and Books

I have just finished Philip Pullman's 'The subtle knife' in Norwegian. Lyra has always been my childhood hero...

I have also recently read 'And The Land Lay Still' by James Robertson which is a brilliant book

An unashamed truly British love of Dr. Who and Sherlock

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have taught 'The Dashing White Sergeant' (my favourite Scottish ceilidh dance) in Rwanda, Thailand, Spain and Norway - every time its gone down a treat

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share stories, thoughts, discussion on all the things that are important to me in the world. I welcome hearing the same from others!
