Handsome, smart, rich, generous, young ... whoops! that was somebody I saw in the movies ... well read, love to argue, I'm usually right, my friends usually aren't smart enough to know why, I like them anyway and forgive easily, find conversation about art and music absolutely incomprehensible so I buy season tickets to the symphony to cover up my ignorance, can sleep on the floor (if I've been drinking), good backpacker, bake fabulous chocolate chip cookies, make lousy pasta sauce, paleo, cannibal whoops! there's that movie guy again, greatly prefer my logic over your knee jerk politics (right OR left), I can tolerate your religion can you tolerate my atheism?, if you don't have anything to say please don't tell me about it.

PHILOSOPHY

All taxes can be mathematically proven to be bad (I'm serious, but let's not talk about it), public schools shouldn't be, national defense is a legitimate role of government and we should vigorously debate its management while remaining non-acrimonious, if we assume all politicians are dishonest we will elect better politicians (but still dishonest ones), 5 minutes listening to what you are going to do is more interesting than 60 minutes listening to what you have already done, anyone who is willing to cook is a better cook than I am, no cook should ever have to wash dishes, telephones suck, commercials suck, exhaust fumes suck, the war on drugs is more expensive and has killed more people and is less likely to be successful than any other war in the history of the world including the war against ISIS (so get your priorities straight), left/right wing knee-jerk politics is the fastest way to identify an idiot, no humans should be sacrificed to save members of other species, cold water is not made for bathing, alarm clocks are the curse of humankind, spelling is important, Castro was the most successful politician of the 20th century and is one of the most inept leaders of the 21st century, anyone who has read this far is hopelessly addicted to finishing what they start, if you can't do basic math you should consider keeping your opinions to yourself, statistical thinking helps avoid errors but doesn't eliminate them, one classic novel is worth 100 current novels, the Economist is the greatest magazine in the history of the world and they are frequently wrong.

Economics, rational politics (OK, I'm joking), thoughtful religious discussion (OK, I'm being cynical), being a better cook, finishing the book list I started in 1965, upgrading my computer so I can justify buying a legal copy of my operating system, getting my glasses adjusted so they sit squarely on my nose (or perhaps getting my neck adjusted so my head sits squarely on my shoulders), eliminating SPAM and boiling the perpetrators in hot oil, eliminating all passports and border crossings, finding an actual friend in Cuba, convincing one person they really want to visit Iowa.

On May Day 2005 I saw Fidel Castro at Plaza de la Revolucion in Havana, and I listened to (and understood most of) his speech. The amazing thing was that it lasted only 63 minutes. OK, let's start with English. What is wrong with the following sentence: 'Surfing isn't just be about a place to sleep'? Hint: are there any extra words? How about standardizing on one language per sentence? Would this be agreeable to everyone? Moved and approved. I'd like to learn parliamentary procedure - is there a volunteer? I'll teach you economics. Actually I'll just give you a couple books to read, and if you don't understand something I'll try to explain it to you in a different way. If you still don't understand, we'll agree that you're an artist.
