About Me

I'm Rodney, I'm from Philly and have been an enthusiastic surfer for over 6 years now! I work in the real estate business as a licensed realtor and investor. I'm an extrovert by nature so I like connecting with people and am pretty good at finding common ground. I like working out (biking, gym, jumping rope, handstands, and pullups are favorites right now) and keeping a healthy lifestyle. I also like to play guitar and jam out with surfers who play. Also, very importantly now that it's summer one of the things I enjoy most is hanging out and skating down at the river rink! (If you're curious to see what I'm talking about, google Blue Cross River Rink or Spruce Street Harbor Park).

I have a general thirst for knowledge and like to hang out with people who are open minded and have a general positive outlook. My work schedule can be pretty hectic some weeks but I still enjoy quality time with surfers even if it's in small doses.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first learned about the concept of couchsurfing in 2009 when I moved in what we'll always call as "519". It was a 7-bedroom house and, as you can imagine, there was a lot going with that many guys and girl under one roof. Three of my roommates had CS profiles and were hosting all the time - I thought was the coolest concept on the planet, so I joined and before I knew it we were had an average of 1-2 groups of surfers per week (as many as 5 people at a time in many cases) staying in our living room.

I like couchsurfing because it (along with my roommates) helped me open my mind up to the rest of the world. It got me thinking a little differently about what travel really is, and pretty soon after I took some big steps out of my comfort zone and made moves. Thanks to that now I've been able to make (and pay visits to!) lots of friends from all over the place.

Since I'm no longer in school and a lot of my energy is going into work, I haven't hosted much recently. Almost all of the hosting I've done in the past year has been friends of surfers that have stayed with me before. It's summer now though so I'm opening up!

Writing me a thoughtful message is the best way that you'll get me to say yes. If it's a blanket message I'm almost guaranteed to say no. Happy surfing!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like growth books like Way of the Peaceful Warrior, Think and Grow Rich, The Dream Giver, Way of the Superior Man, and plenty of others others.

Movie-wise, I'm into basically every good martial arts movie ever made. I generally enjoy action movies too and even like anime.

I'm into pandora radio stations these days (Andy Mckee, Nobuo Uematsu, Today's Pop & Hip-Hop, Sexion d'Assaut, Calm Meditation, Liquid Tension etc). The convenience of it rocks.

Teach, Learn, Share

I always like to learn about how to cook something out of the ordinary, stay up on my French (i.e. if you speak French please help me practice!), hear about secret spots around the world to add to my bucket list, and dive into someone else's perspective on how they live their life.

I can teach you how to play guitar, how to walk on your hands, how to balance on a bike while standing still, how to sell real estate (or anything), how to set SMART (acronym) goals, or most importantly...how to make amazing French toast.
