If and when the apocalypse hits, if there is a sudden norther migration trend in the larger population of the southern half of the USA. Stay out of the bitteroot and surrounding mountain ranges, This mountain range, although very large and remote, is the closest large and remote range bordering many population densities and is an obvious choice to hide in when the shit hits the fan. The result of this is an overcrowded "run for the hills" if you may. Only several hundred miles north by north east are equaly remote mountain ranges in montana and canada that will not be over-run by the southern population (ie. Salt lake city, boise, los angeles.) These would be a much better spot to ride out the event.
