About Me

I've spent the last couple of years hopping around the world, exploring different neighborhoods and cities, and have now happily returned to my beautiful home city Seattle.

I'm a very laid-back and open-minded guy. I see myself as a citizen of a world that I know maybe 0.1% of. I want to experience the other 99.9% not just to learn, but to meet and understand the people of the world and their lives. In doing this I am trying to work on my own presence, empathy, and authenticity.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I mainly used Couchsurfing to meet people on my travels—it was recommended to me by a couple of friends and people I've encountered along the way. Now it's a great way to meet people in or visiting my home city!

Interests

I love the outdoors: hiking, backpacking, kayaking, etc. In the winter, snowboarding is my jam. But my biggest addiction by far is diving—I am very at home under the sea. In general I am prone to spontaneity. I am also a growing photographer and a positively awful but learning pianist.

I'm a big astronomy buff and I like tinkering with things: electronics mostly but I love to build things and I'm slowly working on converting a small bus into my road-trip-party-wagon. Her name is Dribble. There's a story behind that.

I work at a fast-growing startup and it’s 100% remote, so I can generally be anywhere, which matches my travel bug quite well.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I'd say I listen more often to our era's pseudo-hipster modern indie folk singers and songwriters. I do listen to just about every genre when I'm in the right mood.

Books: I consume them with great fervor. I try to alternate between fiction and non-fiction. No genre is safe from my eyeballs, but I am a sucker for dystopian fiction. Recently I've been reading a lot more on personal growth, vulnerability, and meditation.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Helped build the great metropolis of Black Rock City. )'(

Teach, Learn, Share

I always try to make myself a home in any city I live in, so I'm usually a great guide for local food, drink, and fun.

I spent five years on Apple’s software engineering team, and have since built a few successful tech startups. So if you are interested in technology or want to learn more about tech and startups and whatnot, I'm your man.

I love cooking, sometimes experimentally ("hey, what's this taste like?!" shakeshakeshake) and usually the results are good. Mostly I love to cook as the kitchen is great time to share stories with the people in my life.
