Sobre mí

--- General ---
I am an open, friendly guy who loves meeting new people and making new friends, especially around the world. I graduated from the University of Cape Town, worked for a bit in management consulting and now work in strategy at a start-up. Outside of that I am a wildland firefighter with the Volunteer Wildfire Services.

I have done a fair bit of charity work in my city and have also done a lot of volunteer work, both in my hometown and abroad.
My goal is to explore this chaotic world and the fascinating people that inhabit it.

Hello! Please read all my house rules in the "My Home" section and reference the key phrase in your request :)

Welcome, fellow traveller! I grew up in Cape Town and am very fond of my city. I wish you an exciting stay.

I stay in the "city bowl" of suburbs surrounding the city centre. It is a great location - you have access to the city centre, the Atlantic Seaboard as well as the Southern Suburbs. Not to mention being less than 1km from the bottom of Table Mountain. Oranjezicht (https://goo.gl/maps/QSC1WLR6q3KFCTD67)

If you're looking for a full-time guide, I may not be what you're looking for. I often have a busy schedule and may not be able to hang out with you much. But when I am around, I would love to chat to you, eat and drink with you, and get to know you better. I am a people person and I love socialising.

So I have no hard feelings if you don't spend much time with me either, although I emphasise that you must not have a "free hotel" vibe about you :) I appreciate the odd conversation!

If I have the time, I may be able to drive you to certain attractions. But unfortunately this mostly will not be able to be the case. I'm happy to give you all the recommendations though :) especially for the outdoors!

Please note that I am not always able to accept guests so please don't feel insulted if I am not able to host you when you request. I also would prefer not to host for more than a couple of days at a time as my plans are often very spontaneous.

Trust for me is extremely important and I will only accept humble, courteous and thoughtful guests. I will extend the same respect to you :)

Lastly, it goes without saying but I have a zero-tolerance policy for racism, sexism or any other prejudice. Please understand that South Africa has a painful and sensitive history and we expect tourists to approach this and all our current socio-political issues with humility, genuine curiosity, reserved judgement and a mindset of learning. "Africa" is not a country and it is seldom applicable to use that word - please reference the name of the country you're talking about :)

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I am a great fan of community spirit, and this seems to be in abundance on Couchsurfing. I absolutely love meeting new people, especially people from other countries!

I much prefer seeing a country from a local's perspective, which is why I am on Couchsurfing; not just for accommodation but mainly to get to know people who live there and to see the place through their eyes.

I believe that one can learn so much from someone in their hometown.

Intereses

I enjoy hiking, swimming, reading, running, engineering, space, travelling and making new friends.

In particular, I love travelling the unconventional way. I'm not a big fan of touristy places and would rather explore the lesser-known parts of a city/area.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I am eager to share all my culture and traditions about my (little-known) country with my hosts. I am ever-ready to participate in an adventure. I can provide friendly and engaging conversations and always have a smile ready!

I am also very respectful of my host's home and I'm always careful to be clean, tidy and responsible.
