About Me

I love to travel and have trouble staying put. I have a rule that I will only live in a city for a maximum of five years, so I can experience more of the world. As a result, I was born in New York City, lived in Virginia, Chicago, Washington DC, and Los Angeles. While some think it harder to keep friends if you move around, I've found I have built a family all around the world (it allowed me to travel for 3 months in 2015 and get free lodging from old friends over several continents).

Interests

I love stimulating conversations focused on anthropology, food, technology, and literature. While I am a software engineer and thus a tech geek, I like to focus on humanity's past as much as our future. As such, every time I go to the forum in Rome, I always read a speech of Cicero's aloud with friends (and often we get a crowd) or every time I go to Guatemala I try to learn more about the deep cultural roots of the food I am eating and how the crops were originally domesticated and shaped by humankind.

I love to meet new people, cook amazing food, go dancing, and experience new things.

Music is essential to my life. I go to several music festivals a year and have my festival family (I think my favorite show was Daft Punk at Lollapalooza).

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: The hardest part of moving is I cannot part with my books. Philosophy (from ancient to modern), science, Latin poetry, science fiction, Evelyn Waugh, Vladimir Nabokov,...

Movies/TV: Kubrick, Wes Anderson, Rick and Morty, nature documentaries (e.g. Virunga), Good Morning Vietnam, Mel Brooks movies, Woody Allen, Persepolis, Bill Murray (particularly Groundhog Day), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Dog Day Afternoon (and any Pacino during his 70s golden era).

Music: Galantis, Madeon, Flume, Stromae, Tove Lo, Daft Punk, Alina Baraz, Ibeyi, Grimes, ZHU, Hendrix, the Stones, Bob Dylan, Soda Estereo, Depeche Mode... It really runs the gambit from house music to classic rock.
