About Me

I work at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX as an engineer and am a huge baseball fan, an amateur drummer, a film buff, and a craft beer enthusiast.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m new to couchsurfing. The main reason that I'm here is be able to explore local communities on my travels and meet new people around the country that share my interests.

I'd like to meet new people along my way and have had a few friends with great couchsurfing experiences who recommended that I should try it out.

Interests

I’ve gone on some really awesome road trips all over the U.S. with a good friend of mine, but what I’ve really been excited to do is go on a solo trip. On these previous road trips, we would visit different MLB ballparks and try to take in as many different local pubs and craft beers as we could find.

I enjoy baseball immensely and hope to one day in the near future say that I’ve been to all 30 MLB ballparks (currently sitting at 22 that I've visited). I just really enjoy the game and seeing it live.

As for my love of films, it spans from the early silent films up to now. Honestly, there are too many favorites for me to name, but I do love talking about film history and discussing what various people get out of a film. I will say that I'm a pretty big fan of science fiction most likely because I grew up about the time the original Star Wars film came out. Some of my favorite directors are: Kurosawa, Bergman, Hitchcock, Lang, Kubrick, Lean, Malick, Altman, Tarantino, Ford, Coppola, Wilder, von Sternberg, Chaplin, and many others.

Last, but not least, would be my love of good craft beer. In general, I enjoy porters and stouts the most but have been recently developing a better enjoyment of certain IPAs. I really love finding new breweries and checking out the local craft scene, so point me in the right direction or let’s go grab a pint!

I am also an amateur drummer and have played live, original music here in the Houston area. I enjoy live music and checking out the local scene when I'm in a new place.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Blade Runner, Shoah, The Blue Angel, Persona, Pulp Fiction, Lord of the Rings trilogy, 2001, Clockwork Orange, Apocalypse Now, The Last Picture Show, Seven Samurai, In the Mood for Love, Oldboy, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Rashomon, Tokyo Story, Streetcar Named Desire, Sunset Boulevard, It Happened One Night, Bringing Up Baby, The Third Man, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, All About Eve, Lawrence of Arabia, M, pretty much every Buster Keaton film, nearly all of Chaplin's films, Metropolis, so many others.....you can check out my letterboxd.com account if you like... username: crichton1138

Music: I honestly have pretty varied tastes and grew up listening to a lot of classical music even taking a music lecture course in college where I discovered many more very intriguing classical composers. However, my modern music favorites are probably Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphy's, Mumford and Sons, Social Distortion, The Clash, Rush, The Who, Dream Theater, Tool, Metallica (mostly their early stuff), probably listened to way too many hair metal bands when I was a teenager and still have an affinity for some of that, and there are so many others that I enjoy and/or respect from a musician's standpoint.

Books: Honestly, I haven't read much in a while. My job requires quite a bit of reading requirements, schedules, and various documents, so I don't do much pleasure reading currently. I have read a lot of Stephen King in the past and enjoy his books. I also read a lot of astronomy/physics/cosmology books when I was in high school and college - Stephen Hawking, Bryan Greene, John Gribbin, and a few others.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Due to my current job, I was fortunate enough to be able to tour the space shuttle Discovery while it was preparing for a launch at Kennedy Space Center back in 2010 prior to retirement of the shuttle fleet.
